All for one at Croston as clubs merge

Croston Sports will now feature players from the age of six all the way to veterans after a merger.

Croston Juniors have worked with Croston Sports Club in the past, including sharing facilities, but both juniors and seniors will play under the name of Croston Sports Club.

The idea is to create a pathway from under 6s in junior football, through to youth football and eventually open age.

Croston Juniors will now be a section within Croston Sports Club and known as Croston Sports Club (Juniors).

The Junior section will continue to be headed up by Daniel Robinson and his existing team of volunteers.

Daniel Robinson, Chairman of Croston Sports Club (Juniors), said: “The main aim of Croston Juniors is to provide the best access to junior football we can, creating a safe, enjoyable and supportive environment.

"Led by our team of enthusiastic and qualified volunteers, we encourage the development of players’ footballing skills and sportsmanship. We pride ourselves on excellent standards of player and supporter behaviour.

"First and foremost we strive to ensure players enjoy their junior football with us.

"The aims and objectives of both groups clearly align, and as such we see the merger as a natural evolution to combine ideas and resources, and for the first time to encourage a clear pathway from junior to adult football."

Craig Howard, Secretary of Croston Sports Club (Senior Football), adde:d “This is a significant achievement and one which we can all be proud of.

"The current work being undertaken by Croston Sports Club together with Croston Together and Croston Community Centre as part of Project Space will only complement this structure as we look to provide the best facilities possible for our community.

"Having a clear players pathway will only enhance the structure and will continue to raise the profile of Croston Sports Club so that every player, whether they be a seven year old boy or girl or a player within our first team will all be part of one club with the same identity."
