Astley seal the deal as Thornton edge ever closer

Starting in the Premier Division, Thornton Cleveleys just need to win their final game of the season at Rossendale to be crowned champions after beating Coppull United 5-1.

Jordan Beavers and Archie Lang put them in control at Coppull before Ben Pendlebury pulled one back.

But Oliver Wilkinson made it 3-1 and sub Chad Whyte, top scorer for North West Counties side New Mills this season, added a double from the bench late on.

Former West Lancashire League top scorer Dom Lawson – who played at Lancaster City during 2023/24 – helped Wyre Villa stave off relegation for now at least with a double in their win against Milnthorpe Corinthians.

Matthew Casson had put Milnthorpe ahead before Lawson, who played under Wyre Villa boss John Beavers at Thornton Cleveleys, made his telling contribution in a 2-1 win.

Hurst Green came back from a goal down to beat Turton 4-1, the visitors having led through Cole Exley.

Scott Craven, Charlie Collinge, Harvey Monk and Jack Parker all scored in the second half for eighth-placed Hurst Green.

In Division One, Askam’s feint hopes of promotion are over after they could only draw with Holker Old Boys Reserves.

They had a nightmare start with Jordan McGarry and Dylan Ellis firing the home side two up within four minutes.

But Aiden Pearson pulled one back and two second half goals from Ben Phizakela and Callum Rayner turned the game on its head.

Freddie Lawton then made it 3-3 to leave Askam fourth.
