Awesome foursome set early pace - midweek round-up

By Andy Sykes

Four sides will go into Saturday’s Premier Division clashes with perfect records after impressive midweek wins.

Euxton Villa, Vickerstown, Hurst Green and Lytham Town have two wins from two, with both Euxton and Vickerstown yet to concede a goal.

Euxton and Vickerstown both enjoyed 1-0 wins against Slyne-with-Hest and Whitehaven respectively, while Lytham Town came from behind to defeat Southport Hesketh 3-2.

At Hurst Green, the home side dominated possession in the early stages of the match before three goals in 12 minutes midway through the first half effectively settled the game.

It could have been worse for the away side but for an outstanding save from visiting keeper Adam Ridings when he somehow clawed a goal-bound header away from underneath the crossbar.

Billy Poole made it 4-0 just after the break beating the offside trap to curl beyond Ridings, who helped to keep the score down by foiling a series of one-on-ones as the game became stretched.

A youthful Poulton side continued to battle with Danny Fletcher and Ollie Leggitt finding joy down the right wing.

And it was from one such attack that Poulton grabbed the final goal of the game when a Hurst Green defender stopped a surge into the box with a clumsy tackle and Nathan Feeney blasted home from the spot to make the final scoreline 4-1.

Elsewhere, Burscough Richmond beat Tempest United 4-0, Thornton Cleveleys enjoyed a 2-0 win away at Coppull and CMB had an impressive 2-1 win at Blackpool Wren Rovers.

In Division One, Wyre Villa followed up Saturday’s win with a 3-0 victory over Kendal County while Hesketh Bank and Askam United maintained their 100 per cent records with wins over Horwich St Mary’s and Ulverston Rangers.

Haslingden St Mary’s got off the mark with a 2-1 win over Lostock St Gerards while Millom and Hawcoat Park shared four goals for a point each.

In Division Two, Tom Hulme took his goal tally to five in two games as Rossendale followed up Saturday’s 5-0 win with a 4-0 victory at Chipping.

Carnforth United and Kendal United also have two wins from two after victories over Cartmel & District and Storeys.

Prolific striker Gareth Jones got Ben Shirley’s reign as manager at Dalton United up and running with a 2-0 win at Galgate.

A Harris Tomlinson goal just before half-time was enough to earn the three points for Burnley United at Charnock Richard reserves but the match of the week was surely at Walney Island as Furness Rovers secured a 7-4 win.

Joe Tindale, Jordan Chubb and Josh Jones all grabbed a brace to seal the points.

There are four fixtures tonight.

Prem – Turton v Fulwood Amateurs
Div 1 – Croston Sports v Stoneclough, Milnthorpe Corinthians v Crooklands Casuals
Div 2 – Garstang v Freckleton
