Bobby's a dazzler and Matt's just magic

A decent chunk of cup action scheduled for Saturday meant a reduced number of league fixtures this weekend, but the goals continued to flow in the Premier Division, where Thornton Cleveleys smashed seven to go top, albeit having played three games more than previous leaders CMB.

Brett Dawson grabbed a hat-trick, Dom Richie scored twice, whilst Jordan Beavers and Oliver Wilkinson also netted in a 7-0 triumph over Hurst Green.

Meanwhile, Poulton scored six in a remarkable away win at Slyne with Hest, with Ryan Charnley bagging a double and Max Landless, Billy Joyce, Mitch Cheetham and Danny Morris getting one apiece as the visitors rallied from 3-0 down to secure victory.

Liam Birch, Will Sharkey and Anthony Peters were the scorers for the home side.

Bobby Carter scored twice, including one from the spot, as Turton picked up a vital three points, and their first of the season away from home, with a 2-0 win at Milnthorpe Corinthians.

And there was a 2-0 win too for fast-improving Cleator Moor Celtic, with goals from Ellis Trotter and James Bell sealing a home victory over Rossendale.

Just two games were completed in Division One, but it may still prove an important day’s play, as Eagley moved to the top of the division with a dramatic comeback victory over Hesketh Bank.

The new leaders had twice trailed in the match after goals from Jordan Smethurst and Matthew Low respectively, but a strike from Kieran Sisson and two from Kieran Lomax would seal an eventual 3-2 win, with Lomax’s second and match-winning goal coming in the 90th minute.

Elsewhere, Kendal County and Carnforth Rangers played out a 2-2 draw, with a Jay Hayton double cancelled out by goals from Joe Wilkinson and Ben Blackburn.

A hat-trick from Matthew Poole saw Storeys rally from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Astley and Buckshaw in Division Two, with Lucas Gornall and Jamal John having put the home side two up going into half time.

And Dalton United also came from behind to win on the road at Euxton Villa Reserves, with Robbie Sanderson cancelling out Thomas Henderson opener, before a Jordan Chubb brace, which included a penalty, ultimately sealed a 3-1 win.

A Jonny Vortman brace set Kendal United on their way to a 3-0 win over Walney Island, with Matthew Kennedy rounding things off just after the hour.

Meanwhile, Charnock Richard Reserves held off a spirited Stoneclough side to secure a 3-2 victory, thanks to an own goal, and strikes from Fenton Davies and George Rose.

Austin Almond and Chris Kilpatrick scored in quick succession to spark hopes of an unlikely comeback, but further goals would not materialise.

Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves put in a five-star performance in Division One Reserve, with a Liam Wenman hat-trick, Steve Betteridge goal and Steve McEwan penalty sealing a 5-2 win at Poulton Reserves.

Rob Doughlas and Deontay Atkinson got on the scoresheet for the home side.

In the division’s other game of the weekend, goals from Oliver Wheatcroft and Scott Craven saw Hurst Green Reserves claim a 2-2 draw against Eagley Reserves, after the latter had led 2-0 through Nav Hussain and Jordan Hibbert.

And we wrap up Saturday’s league action with Chipping Reserves, would secure three points in Division Two Reserve with a 2-0 win at Storeys Reserves.

Kieron Smithson and Zach Wilson were the scorers for the away side.

Into the variety of cup action that was brought to us this weekend, and we start with the Lancashire Amateur Shield, which reached its third-round stage.

In total, three West Lancs sides advanced from five of Saturday’s ties, with Coppull United beating Milton 2-1, Fulwood Amateurs winning 2-0 at Pause United and Wyre Villa claiming victory via a penalty shootout against Croston Sports, after the game ended level at 1-1.

Meanwhile, Blackpool Wren Rovers and Crooklands Casuals exited the competition, being edged out 2-1 by Chadderton Cott and Bolton Lads and Girls Club respectively.

Lostock St Gerards match at Elton Vale was called off.

There was also one Richardson Cup tie, with CMB advancing to round three with a 5-1 win against Ulverston Rangers.

Charlie Scholes scored twice in the win, joined on the scoresheet by Dylan Winstanley, Ben Thornton and Dan Crook, who scored from the penalty spot.

Matthew Lawler got Ulverston Rangers’ only goal.

And we end with a look at the Stewart Rowe Memorial Cup, where Freckleton Reserves netted five to secure victory over Fulwood Amateurs A in Group A.

Callum Williams, Lewis Masters, Samson Ogundaisi, Aaron Fleming and Callum Alexander all grabbed a goal in an eventual 5-2 win.

Jack Mounsey starred in the Group B action, scoring a hat-trick as Rossendale Reserves won 3-1 at Croston Sports Reserves, who saw their only goal scored by John Sharples.

Meanwhile, Turton Reserves beat Tempest United Reserves 2-0 thanks to goals from Ryan Hulme and Zac Quaal.

In Group C, Will Meade and Josh Hadwin netted either side of Dan Nowell’s equaliser to seal a 2-1 win for Carnforth Rangers Reserves against Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves.

And Hesketh Bank Reserves came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Haslingden St Mary’s Reserves, with John Stead and Kacper Ganczarski responding to first-half goals from Sam Gammack and Michael Woodvine.

And finally in Group D, Adam Whittaker scored a hat-trick as Lostock St Gerards Reserves beat CMB Reserves 4-1.

Ian Marsden then scored a fourth to round off the victory, which came despite Ainsley Turner opening the scoring 20 minutes.
