Premier Division: Spot-on Raj keeps Burscough on track

As recent weeks have shown, the West Lancashire League can be an unpredictable beast, with the ability to regularly throw up shocking scorelines.

But in a rare case of symmetry on Saturday, all five Premier Division games were decided by a 2-1 scoreline.

Leaders Burscough Richmond took advantage of CMB’s postponement to extend their advantage at the top to four points, but had to come from behind to secure victory over Turton.

Turton took the lead through a Faisal Al Raisi penalty, only to see that goal cancelled out by Adam Sutton.

And Burscough Richmond would complete the turnaround five minutes from time with a penalty of their own, successfully converted by Raj Singh-Uppal.

Third-placed Poulton also had to recover from a goal down on their way to win a win over Fulwood Amateurs, who had led their clash thanks to goal from Lucas Gornall.

However, late goals from Brogan Grundy and Jacob Gregory would see Poulton take all three points.

And Whitehaven were the last of a trio of Premier Division sides who claimed comeback victories this weekend, as they beat Tempest United to continue their late-season resurgence.

Joel Shorthouse made it 1-0 Tempest United 50 minutes in, but would see that goal cancelled out in rapid fashion by Travis Fyfe.

Nine minutes later, it was 2-1 Whitehaven, with Kian Goulding scoring what would prove to be the match winner just before the hour mark.

Elsewhere, goals from Robbie Hulme and Carl Eastwood, either side of a Jenson Butterworth penalty, saw Blackpool Wren Rovers beat Milnthorpe Corinthians.

And Coppull United claimed three points on the road as they won at Slyne with Hest.

Cameron Murphy gave the visitors the lead, before Reece Pearce pulled Slyne with Hest level just before the break.

However, Coppull United’s advantage would be restored, this time decisively, by Luke Power in the 70th minute.

Division One: Late elation for Eagley

A 93rd minute winner from Joe Howling saw Eagley claim a 3-2 at Horwich St Mary’s Victoria.

The visitors took lead after just two minutes through a Kieran Sissons penalty, and doubled their advantage not long after thanks to Tom Morgan.

And despite the hosts battling back to 2-2 thanks to goals from Danny Hutton and Alex Mackenzie, Howling’s stoppage time strike would ensure Eagley left with all three points.

Meanwhile, a brace from Danny Birkby saw Hesketh Bank beat Carnforth Rangers 2-0, a result which sees his side move up to 2nd in the table.

And Jack Milburn also scored twice, including one from the spot, as Ulverston Rangers secured a 3-0 victory over Kendal County. A second-half own goal rounded off the win.

Finally in Division One, goals from Aiden Pearson and Jordan Rayner saw Askam United beat Hawcoat Park 2-0.

Division Two: Title tussle takes another twist

The battle at the top of Division Two has been too close to call for much of the season, and Saturday things were blown wide open once more.

At Walney Island, a hat-trick from James Bailey helped the third-placed side record a 4-1 victory over league leaders Freckleton - and the family bragging rights as Bailey's treble was against his twin brother, Freckleton keeper Matty Bailey!

An own goal set Walney Island on their way to the win, whilst Freckleton’s only goal of the game came via Graham Lyons.

Meanwhile, Holker Old Boys Reserves, currently in second, came from behind to beat Euxton Villa Reserves 2-1.

It took until the 75th minute for the deadlock to be broken by Kieran Mawdsley, before late goals from Sam Lightfoot and Faryl Foster saw the game turned on its head.

That result, coupled with Freckleton’s defeat, gives Holker Old Boys Reserves the opportunity to reclaim top spot, should they win their game in hand on the leaders.

Chipping also have games in hand with which to influence the title race, and they remain in the hunt after a 3-1 win at Cartmel.

The hosts actually took the lead 10 minutes through Tomas Sanchez, before a brace from Matthew Shorrock and a Tom Bailey goal saw Chipping rally to claim victory.

Kendal United also picked up three points on the road as they beat Galgate 4-1.

Two goals from Ryan close set the visitors on their way, with their scoring rounded off by James Pattison and Bailey Kenny.
Dylan Mobbs got Galgate’s only goal.

AFC Blackpool Reserves won 5-1 against Pause United, with Frankie Ball scoring a brace.

Tyler Hallam, Matthew Sillett and Jamie Houghton also got on the scoresheet, before Kieran Killiffin netted a consolation for Pause United late on.

Rounding off the Division Two action, Charnock Richard Reserves and Dalton United played out a goalless draw.

Division One Reserve: Brilliant Brickell hits six

Coppull United Reserves netted nine unanswered goals in their victory over Horwich St Mary’s Victoria Reserves, with Gregg Brickell scoring six of them in a remarkable individual display.

Coppull United Reserves’ other goals came courtesy of Jack Ramshaw, Josh Welsh and an own goal.

That result also confirmed Horwich St Mary’s Victoria Reserves’ relegation from the division.

Hurst Green Reserves won 4-1 at CMB Reserves, that despite going on a goal down in the first half.

The hosts led at the break through Josh Pope, but a Sam Whittaker strike on 55 minutes and an own goal two minutes later saw the game swiftly turned on its head.

A late brace from Danny Mort then rounded off the win for the visitors.

Meanwhile, Tempest United Reserves and Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves drew 1-1, after Jack Morris’ opener was cancelled out by Danny Fletcher.

Division Two Reserve: Sergeant strike sees off spirited Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves

Hesketh Bank Reserves eventually secured a 4-3 victory at Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves, but not before being pegged back twice by their hosts.

The visitors led 2-0 after just 16 minutes thanks to goals from Joe Smyth-Ferguson and Lewis Brown, only to see that lead evaporate as Tom Jackson and Jack Sloman netted for Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves.

Hesketh Bank Reserves retook the lead through Smyth-Ferguson’s second of the game, only for Jamie Woodruff to level things up once more just two minutes later.

The away side would ultimately leave with all three points though, with George Sergeant scoring their fourth 11 minutes from time.

And completing this weekend’s roundup, Lytham Town Reserves beat Fulwood Amateurs A 1-0, with Cameron Stubbs netting the only goal of the game.
