Clanny calls time after 13 years in charge
The club wish to announce that 1st team manager Chris Clandon is to step down from the position with immediate effect.
Clanny joined Richmond in 1994 and spent 2 years as a player before returning in 2002 as the manager of the first team.
In the ensuing 13 years, Richmond have won the Preston Premier League on three occasions, the Guildhall Cup on 3 occasions, been finalists in the Lancashire Amateur Shield, been Preston Premier League Runners Ups four times, Guildhall Cup finalists once and West Lancs Division 2 Runners Up in the clubs first season in the league.
In Clannys tenure the club moved from the District League to the West Lancs as Clanny oversaw all necessary preparations that are required to become West Lancs compliant as well as taking on the role as club secretary.
Clanny said, I have had an unbelievable time as manager of our fantastic club but the time is now right for a change. After 13 years it’s time for a new voice with new ideas.
I have had some great help over the years with the team from Vinny Smith, Neil Hanson & Chris Blakeman and all of the players over the years have had a special qualities that for all but 1 year have seen us in the top 4 minimum of every division we have played in and to have won so many trophies in that time too. The players I have managed over the years have been fantastic.
I have to say though that special thanks have to go to Mike Flynn (President) & Kenny Lomax (Chairman), these two lads have backed and supported me every week since I took the job on in 2002, they’ve been behind me 100% from the first day and it wouldn’t of worked without them. I leave the job with the club in a strong position and wish the next manager the best of luck to take us on to the Premier League.
Chris Clandon
