Clubs warned about M6 traffic delays

By Andy Sykes

Clubs and officials are advised to give themselves extra travel time after M6 roadworks continued to cause delays for motorists.

Repair work between junctions 32 and 33 northbound of the M6 (Preston to Lancaster South) is proving a headache for motorists with lanes closed.

The roadworks - plus higher than expected Lake District traffic due to the hot weather - caused severe tailbacks last weekend with some West Lancashire League matches kicking off late.

The hard shoulder and the inside lane are both closed off during the day with a reduced speed limit in place.

One journey to Millom - usually 90 minutes - took almost twice as long with alternative routes like the A6 also backed up.

The delays appear to have eased this week but clubs travelling north to Lancaster and Cumbria advised to allow extra travelling time on Saturdays.

The roadworks are expected to be in place until the end of October.
