Premier Division: CMB show character to see off Thornton Cleveleys

This weekend’s fixtures were played out on November 5, and there were certainly plenty of fireworks and bright displays across the West Lancashire League on Saturday.

We kick off this week’s roundup at CMB, who twice fought from behind to claim three points against Thornton Cleveleys.

Jake Mangan gave Thornton Cleveleys the lead on the half-hour mark, only to see his goal cancelled out by Charlie Scholes just eight minutes later.

Mangan would though restore the visitor's advantage just before the break, but second-half strikes from Dylan Winstanley and Christian McCrory would ultimately seal a 3-2 CMB win.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Burscough Richmond hung on to top spot after a dramatic 3-2 win over Blackpool Wren Rovers.

Wrens fought back to level twice and will wonder how they didn't leave Richmond Park with at least a point after an impressive display.

They had a goal chalked off in the first half for offside and only a last-gasp tackle by Dillon Bosque-Green denied Carl Eastwood from 10 yards out as Wrens looked the better side in a rain-sodden first half.

Ryan Willets then headed against the post from six yards as Craig Doble's men continued to create the best chances in the second period.

But the league leaders looked to be on the way to an eighth successive home win when Zach Carberry also headed against the upright, only for his effort to go in unlike Willets' moments earlier.

Bosque-Green repeated his heroics of the first half with another goal saving tackle, this time brilliantly denying DJ De La Cruz as he was about to pull the trigger.

What followed was a remarkable period of the game, where four goals were scored in just nine minutes.

Aidan Burrows deservedly pulled Blackpool Wren Rovers level on 85 minutes, again with a header.

But a long ball barely a minute after the restart caused confusion in the away defence allowing Raj Singh-Uppal to put Burscough Richmond back in front.

Eastwood then looked to have snatched a point with a stoppage time penalty after tricky substitute Finn Marsh was felled just inside the box.

But Anthony Murt's men somehow found a winner - Mike Smith's delightful through-ball was poked past the keeper by sub Pete Armitage for fellow replacement Josh Niblock to tap home on 94 minutes, sparking wild scenes.

Second-placed Poulton were poised to pounce on any Burscough Richmond slip-up, as they recorded a 4-1 win over Turton thanks to braces from Josh Few and Luke Noble.

Ricardo Pembele was the goalscorer for Turton.

Hurst Green survived surrendering a two-goal lead to eventually beat Slyne with Hest 4-2.

A Daniel Mort double had Hurst Green two up before half-time, but Slyne with Hest would start the second half strong, netting twice in five minutes through Robbie Mooring and Reece Pearce.

However, the game would be level for just three minutes before Joe Savin restored Hurst Green’s advantage. A Jordan Monk penalty would later seal the win.

Goals from Danny Scarlett and Ross Ainsworth saw Lytham Town register a 2-0 win over Whitehaven.

As was the case last weekend, there were a number of postponements across the division as the winter weather begins to take hold.

Premier Division fixtures between Coppull United and Fulwood Amateurs, Milnthorpe Corinthians and Tempest United and Vickerstown vs Wyre Villa all had to be called off on Saturday.

Division One: Top two threaten to pull clear

Wins for Lostock St Gerards and Rossendale saw the league’s leading duo extend their cushion over the rest of the division.
Leaders Lostock St Gerards beat Hawcoat Park 3-0 thanks to goals from Ryan Salmon, Harvey Close and Oliver Evans.

Meanwhile, second-placed Rossendale secured a 3-1 win away at Askam United.

Joe Howarth, Tom Hulme and Tom Hartley were all on target in the first half for the visitors, whilst Jordan Rayner were score a consolation for Askam United late on.

The gap to the top two grew after Eagley defeated Hesketh Bank, who remain third, 4-3.

Luke Bradbury bagged a brace from Eagley, whilst Finlay Stafford and Bailey Wallace also found the net.

George Bond, Danny Birkby and Joe Smyth-Ferguson got a goal apiece for Hesketh Bank, but it wouldn’t be enough to prevent an Eagley victory.

Carnforth Rangers would secure three points on the road with a 5-1 win at Stoneclough, that despite the hosts taking the lead.

Aaqil Campbell got the game’s opening goal, before the visitors took control through a Tom Knight brace, strikes from Jonny Ash and Stan Rich and an own goal.

Rounding off the Division One action, Ulverston Rangers beat Crooklands Casuals 3-0, with goals from Aron Beardsworth, Sean Mooney and Josh Catlett.

Scheduled fixtures between Kendal County and Horwich St Mary’s Victoria, and Millom and Southport Hesketh, were postponed.

Division Two: Brilliant Astley and Buckshaw hit 10

Wes Bajrallu scored an incredible four goals, whilst Dom Case also got a hat-trick as their Astley and Buckshaw side beat Galgate 10-2.

Dan Brown and Wes Alexander also found the net, whilst Sam Senior grabbed a brace for Galgate.

Holker Old Boys Reserves also picked up yet another big win, as they beat Charnock Richard Reserves 7-0.

Faryl Foster hit four, whilst Charlie McGladdery, Robbie Wallace and Sam Lightfoot scored a goal each.

Three goals in four first half minutes were enough for second-placed Freckleton to take victory over Storeys, who fell just short of a memorable comeback.

Zach Wilkes, Owen Potts and Joe Bentley looked to have wrapped the game up early for Freckleton, but goals from Callum Moorhead and Jamie Hastings would make it a nervy final ten minutes.

Freckleton would though ultimately hold to secure a 3-2 win and all three points.

Euxton Villa Reserves also recorded a 3-2 home win as they saw off Garstang Reserves.

Goals from Kieran Mawdsley, Nick Buckley and Ash Ball sealed the win, whilst Luke Williams and Sam Heyward found the net for Garstang Reserves.

A late Oscar Middlesborough winner gave Chipping all three points as they too won 3-2 at Walney Island.

Anthony Slater and Harris Bailey were also on target for the visitors, whilst Walney Island’s goals came through Kieran Solloway and James Bailey.

The final Division Two game saw Cartmel and Pause United play out a 1-1 draw, after Wayne Beswick’s opener for Pause United was cancelled out by Cartmel’s Danny Reeve.

Two fixtures were also postponed in Division Two, with AFC Blackpool Reserves vs Kendal United and Dalton United vs Burnley United falling victim to the weather.

Division One Reserve: Table toppers triumph in topsy-turvy clash

League leaders Blackpool Wren Rovers eventually triumphed 4-3 over CMB Reserves in a seven-goal thriller.

Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves would take the lead just six minutes in through Lewis Mensah, only to be immediately pegged back by Declan Roberts.

CMB Reserves would then lead twice through a Jax Hazeldine goal and Lewis Cullen penalty either side of a strike Ellis Wilson, before Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves would wrestle back control again, this time decisively.

Steve McEwan would level the game at 3-3 from the spot, before Luke Smith grabbed what would prove to be the winner just two minutes later.

A hat-trick from Jordan Wignall helped Fulwood Amateurs Reserves on their way to a 6-1 win over Poulton Reserves.

Cory Gill scored twice for, whilst Hugo Strand also got himself on the scoresheet. Dylan Henshall got Poulton Reserves’ only goal.

Turton Reserves ran out 3-0 winners against Horwich St Mary’s Victoria Reserves thanks to goals from Ally Dickson, Tom McKee and Josh Sigworth.

Tempest United Reserves vs Thornton Cleveleys Reserves was postponed.

Division 2 Reserve: Leaders put in five-star display on day of doubles

Lewis Greenhalgh and Karanga Zach-Browne both bagged braces, either side of a goal from Mike Linney, as table-topping Eagley Reserves beat Chipping Reserves 5-1.

Kieran Smithson got Chipping Reserves’ only goal.

In total, six players in the division would double up on Saturday, including three in a single game at Hesketh Bank Reserves, who beat Fulwood Amateurs A 4-2.

David Yeates and Jack O’Neill both scored twice for the hosts, whilst Will Simm matched their efforts for Fulwood Amateurs A.
Finally, Michael Saunders got two as Rossendale Reserves beat Haslingden St Marys Reserves 4-1.

Rossendale Reserves’ other goals came courtesy of Jonathan Booth and Lewis Monaghan.

Kyle Davis, however, went one better, as he netted a hat-trick in Carnforth Rangers Reserves’ 3-1 victory over Thornton Cleveleys A, who’s only goal was scored by Callum Carbutt.

And wrapping up this weekend’s league action, Storeys Reserves sealed all three points deep into injury time as they beat Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves 3-2.

Storeys Reserves were twice pegged back in the game, with goals from Kyle Summers and Steve Stirzaker being cancelled out by Tom Pearson and Elliot Bousfield respectively.

However, they would ultimately emerge victorious, thanks to a winner from Tom Charlson in the 95th minute.

Richardson Cup- 1st Round: Haslingden St Marys star as they score six

In the only cup game of the weekend, Haslingden St Marys made the most of the spotlight as they hit Croston Sports 6-0.
