Comeback kings Wrens stay unbeaten

Blackpool Wren Rovers took the local bragging rights coming from behind to beat Fylde coast rivals Poulton at a soggy Brews Park, with pictures by CAIT MASON.

Noah Sawkins put the visitors ahead but a Matt Sillett equaliser and a Ric Seear penalty earned the three points for the home side, who remain unbeaten in fourth.

The East Lancashire derby between Rossendale and Haslingden St Mary’s ended in a 0-0 stalemate, a match that was more entertaining for the 250-plus crowd than the scoreline may suggest.

Haslingden striker Tom Hulme – against his former club – saw a glancing header tipped wide by Henry Bunting at full stretch and Marcus Jennings palmed a stinging Scott Wylie effort around the post for a corner in a tense first-half largely played in torrential rain.

Both sides were limited to shots from distance with impressive midfielders Tom Hartley and Alfie Edmondson the driving forces behind both sides’ attacks.

The second period continued in similar vein with few clear cut chances until Hartley’s 25-yard effort was parried by Jennings into the path of Rossendale sub Rico Pembele but he couldn’t direct the rebound on target.

Rossendale sensed victory when Haslingden were reduced to 10 men with nine minutes plus injury time on the clock.

But the resolute visitors stood firm and a point apiece was a fair result after 90 minutes of honest endeavour.

Lostock St Gerards moved into second with a narrow win over Burscough Richmond thanks to Mason McKay’s second half winner.

They trail leaders Tempest United who had another impressive win away at near neighbours CMB.

George Scott put them ahead which Joel Shorthouse doubled before the break.

Dylan Winstanley halved the deficit shortly after the restart only for Tom Booth to restore Tempest’s two goal advantage.

Shorthouse then added his second late on to seal a 4-1 win for Ross McNair’s men.

Fulwood Amateurs are in third after a 2-0 win at Coppull thanks to goals in each half from Harrison Walsh and Aaron Hewitt.

Milnthorpe Corinthians also scored twice in each half through Tyron Dodgson and Nathan Hankinson to beat Wyre Villa by the same scoreline, a game that saw the end of Richard Cookney’s reign as Villa manager.

Eagley and Hurst Green earned a point each after a 1-1 draw, Jake Ryan and Scott Craven on the scoresheet for their respective sides.

In Division One, the top two came from behind but had to settle for a point each.

Hesketh Bank conceded an early penalty for the second home game running, this time to Croston Sports, who equalised via Ric Tomlinson.

Kevin Edgar had opened the scoring but neither side could find a winner in a 1-1 draw.

It was the same scoreline over the River Ribble as Astley and Buckshaw’s Lucas Gornall cancelled out Rickeem Jones’ first half effort for Freckleton.

Chipping followed up their superb win at Holker Old Boys Res with a 4-3 win but were made to work hard by Turton who replied three times.

Harris Bailey (2) and Jack Fletcher were on target for Chipping but each time Turton restored parity through Morgan Griffiths, Cormac O’Mahoney and Jack Egan.

Fletcher’s 80th minute strike proved to be the winner as Chipping moved into third with Millom and Ulverston Rangers’ matches both called off due to the rain.

It was a similar story at Southport Hesketh where Lytham Town were twice pegged back before ultimately prevailing 3-2.

Ross Ainsworth put Lytham ahead with Matthew Norcross levelling.

Will Eastham put Lytham back in front only for Daniel Boden to square it at 2-2. Ainsworth’s second was enough to send the points back to the Fylde coast.

Joe Jobling was back in the goals in Carnforth’s 3-0 win at Slyne with a brace, Cole Holt also netting.

And Askam United and Kendal County drew 2-2, Cammy Khan and Louis Miller scoring for the visitors with Joshua Jones scoring twice in two minutes for Askam.

Zac Clark moved ahead in the goalscorer charts with five in Pause’s 9-2 win at Caton United in Division Two, making it 14 goals so far this season for the former Garstang and Kendal Town frontman.

Taylor Fagan got two with further goals from Aaron Helliwell and Ben Roberts, Lloyd Trippett twice on target for the home side.

Pause are level on points at the top with Mill Hill who fell to their first defeat of the season, 3-2 at fast-improving Stoneclough.

Joe Howlin, Lewis Greenhall and Jordan Wignall were on target for the home side with Brandon Clifton and Aaron Evans scoring for Mill Hill.

Diesel Wilkes fuelled Hawcoat Park’s first away win of the season, 3-2 at Walney Island. His double and a Charlie Thompson put Park three to good with Jack Litherland’s late double making it a nervy finish but they hung on.

Storeys also enjoyed a good away win, 4-1 at Galgate thanks to Robbie Mooring, Reece Cresswell and two from ex Slyne and Milnthorpe striker Reece Pearce. Macauley Willan grabbed the home side’s solitary goal.

Bamber Bridge Res twice came back from a deficit to earn a point at Euxton Villa Res in a 2-2 draw.

Jake Green and Jordan Murdoch traded goals in the first half before Green put Villa back in front. Anisio Jesus earned the visitors a share of the spoils on 65 minutes.

Tommy Dollin was back in the goals for Thornton Res with four in their 6-3 win at Garstang Res.

Thornton were 5-1 up at half time with David McPherson opening the scoring early on before Dollin plundered four in 29 minutes, with Dan Pye briefly halving the deficit.

Matthew Kitchen pulled one back on 47 minutes to make it 5-2 before McPherson and Lewis Heap traded goals as it finished 6-3 to the visitors.

They are now on 12 points as are Charnock Richard Res who beat Barnoldswick Res 4-2 away from home.

Danny Regan’s goal for Charnock was cancelled out by Kayson Doe but Charnock pulled away in the second period through Arrandale Richards, Dan Metge and Regan’s second.

Jacob Pilling rounded off the scoring for the home side who remain bottom.
