Coppull and Whitehaven enjoy away day success

Euxton Villa are still scrambling for a first win since mid-December after their derby loss to mid-table Coppull United, writes THEO HEWSON-BETTS, with pictures from Wyre Villa v Hawcoat Park from STEVE TAYLOR.

On a wet and windy day across the North West, Jordan Bentham’s first-half double for the visitors was enough to secure the points, despite Josh Briggs’ late consolation.

Whitehaven Amateurs have been on a drastically different run of form, and they kept that going with a 2-1 win over Hurst Green.

Bobby Carter scored first for Whitehaven before Billy Poole’s equaliser tied things up before the break.

Ben Powell put the travelling side in the driving seat once again just after the break and although Hurst Green thought an 80th-minute effort had crossed the line, it was not given allowing an important victory for the Cumbrians, hot on the heels of last week's display against leaders Thornton Cleveleys.

Burscough Richmond were blessed again by the presence of Jordan Lorde on Saturday, the forward took his tally for the season up to 14 goals with his brace against Poulton.

It took a further 20 minutes for Tempest to get back into the game, but when it rains it pours and Jordan Pendlebury’s 67th-minute penalty was followed immediately by Matthew Westwell’s equaliser.

Tempest seemed primed to take the lead but couldn’t take further advantage of their momentum and the match ended level.
