Cup action: Eastwood spot kick ends double dream

Thornton Cleveleys’ hopes of a league and cup double are over after they were dumped out of the Richardson Cup by Blackpool Wren Rovers.

The Premier Division pacesetters battled back from a two goal deficit only to fall to a 3-2 defeat in injury time.

Dejay Delacruz and Kian Makepeace had given Wrens a two goal advantage but Thornton hit back through Adam Heaney and Daniel Stoney.

But with the clock ticking down, striker Carl Eastwood kept his cool from the spot to seal Wrens' passage into the next round.

It was a similar scoreline at Tempest United as the Bolton side prevailed by the odd goal in five against Euxton Villa.

Matthew Davies and Tom Booth put Tempest two goals to the good in the first quarter but Villa showed their credentials with efforts from Jordan Darr and Josh Briggs to make it 2-2 at half-time.

But that man Davies sealed the win for Tempest on 68 minutes.

Hurst Green fell to their second consecutive home defeat in a 3-1 loss to Burscough Richmond.

Burscough went ahead through a Dillon Bosque-Green opener on five minutes with an own goal doubling their advantage.

Hurst Green pulled one back through Jordan Monk on the stroke of half time but any ideas of a comeback were over when Jordan Warde settled the tie eight minutes from full-time.

In the Challenge Cup, prolific marksman Gareth Jones was back in the goals with a treble in Dalton United’s 4-1 win over Cartmel and District.

Jonathan While got the other for Dalton with Karl Davidson on the scoresheet for Cartmel.

Tom Hulme bagged two as Rossendale eventually saw off the hurdle of a stubborn Storeys side.

Hulme put Rossendale two up before Alex Parrott made it 2-1 just before half-time.

Jordan Hilton made it 3-1 on 56 minutes but again Storeys replied through Daniel Palin.

Scott Wylie thought he’d secured the win with a fourth for the visitors on 70 minutes but Parrott chirped in with another to set up a nervy finish, the game ending 3-4.

Kendal United beat Freckleton 3-2 in the other tie.

And in the Stewart Rowe Memorial Cup, Daniel Fryer and Ben Cecil earned Wyre Villa Reserves a 2-0 win at Lytham Town Reserves.
