Turton travelled to Lytham Town and came away with all 3 points in a 2-1 win. These points effectively handed them the Division One title as their nearest rivals can no longer overtake them. They need 1 point from their last 4 games.
Danny Locke opened the scoring on 11 minutes with Luke Bradbury adding a second after 24 minutes. This gave Turton a 2-0 half time lead. But in the second half Lytham gave a good account of themselves and pulled a goal back through Ric Tomlinson on 62 minutes.
Second placed Burscough Richmond got the better of another of the group chasing one of the promotion places with a 3-1 home victory over Hawcoat Park. Michael Galliers settled the nerves early on scoring after just 3 minutes and Danny Barrie made it even better after 26 minutes. Just after half time James Harrison effectively ended the contest. Rob Allington managed to pull one back for the Cumbrians after 75 minutes.
Another of the chasing pack also had a great victory. Tempest United travelled to Ulverston to play GSK and came away with a 4-0 victory.
Phil Howard scored the only goal of the first half after 11 minutes. Second half goals from Kurtis Farlow (58), Liam Stewart (73) and an 87th minute own goal gave the Chew Moor side all three points.
Poulton Town also kept up the pressure with a 2-1 home win over struggling Blackburn side Mill Hill St Peters. Two quick Poulton goals put them in control in the first half when both George Byrne (6 mins) and Danny Whittaker (12 mins) converted. In the second half Mill Hill got some reward with a strike by Jordan Freeman on 63 minutes.
‘Veteran’ Gareth Jones ensured Dalton United picked up all three home points with an excellent 1-0 victory over Presidents Cup finalists Hurst Green (who beat Tempest United 2-1 in their semi-final).
The other finalists are Haslingden St Mary’s who continued to confound runaway leaders Turton in midweek with a late 1-0 semi-final victory.
