Eagles fly while Haslingden are left to wait

By Andy Sykes

Eagley were crowned Division One champions in the Holker Old Boys sun - but Haslingden St Mary's missed the chance to seal their own promotion nearby at Millom, writes BEN SMITH with pictures from both those games by PAUL STAFFORD and DARREN HEAVYSIDE.

In the Premier Division first where CMB claimed victory in their remaining game in hand on Thornton Cleveleys, closing the gap to the leaders down to a single point with a 3-1 win over Lostock St Gerards.

A Dylan Winstanley double and an own goal saw the second-placed side take all three points, despite falling behind three minutes in after a goal from Reece Thompson.

Elsewhere, Tempest United were the division’s leading scorers as they beat Slyne with Hest 7-1.

A brace from Josh Firth got the ball rolling, before Sam Parkinson, Jack Morris, Tom Booth, Jordan Pendlebury and Aaron Thorpe all netted one apiece.

Ryan Hollins, meanwhile, got Slyne’s only goal.

Mitch Cheetham also scored twice as Poulton put in a five-star performance, with Max Landless, Danny Morris and Billy McKenna also on target in a 5-1 triumph over Cleator Moor Celtic, whose only goal came via Reece Little.

Owen Woodburn, Cody Benson and Josh Hilton were the scorers as Whitehaven won 3-0 at Turton.

And Fulwood Amateurs also picked up a full compliment of points on the road, with goals from Yasin Resaei and Jonty McDonald sealing a 2-0 win at Milnthorpe Corinthians.

Billy Whittle and Will Doherty scored either side of a Greg Brickell equaliser as Burscough Richmond beat Coppull United 2-1.

And the division’s final two games both ended in draws, with Blackpool Wren Rovers’ trip to Rossendale finishing 2-2 after Aidan Burrows netted an 89th-minute equaliser for the visitors.

Matthew Sillett had earlier opened the scoring, before a quickfire double courtesy of Joe Howarth and Simon Nangle saw the home side lead for much of the game.

Meanwhile, Hurst Green and Wyre Villa played out a 1-1 draw, with Cuan Bradley’s opener cancelled out by Brett Dawson.

On to Division One, where it was a big day for Eagley, who were crowned champions after a 2-1 win at Holker Old Boys Reserves.

Early goals from Kieran Sissons and Alfie Cowen were enough to ensure the title was sealed in fitting fashion, despite an own goal halving the visitors’ advantage in the second-half.

The race for the division’s remaining promotion spot, meanwhile, took a potential twist, with goals from Sebastian Bailey and Joe Smyth-Ferguson seeing Hesketh Bank jump up into second with a 2-0 victory at Lytham Town.

That result coincided with Millom beating Haslingden St Mary’s 1-0 thanks to a Jamie Pattinson goal, meaning the latter drop out of the top two, albeit with two games still left to secure a place in next year’s Premier Division.

Ulverston Rangers’ faint hopes of promotion are though over after a Ben Blackburn hat-trick sealed a 3-0 win for visitors Carnforth Rangers.

But the division’s biggest win in terms of margin was registered by Croston Sports as Liam Robinson scored twice and Jordan Freeman, Ryan Fletcher and John Sharples were also on target in a 5-0 victory over Chipping.

Division Two saw Freckleton take a significant step towards securing promotion, with Callum Williams scoring twice in a 5-3 win at Euxton Villa Reserves.

Saul Hamer, Joe Bentley and Graham Lyons were also on target for the visitors, whilst James Hale, Ian Billington and Jake Greene were the scorers for the home side.

That result opened up a six-point gap to Pause United with both sides having just two games left to play, though the latter did keep their slim hopes alive with a 2-0 win at Dalton United, sealed thanks to early double from Zak Clark.

Elsewhere, three goals in nine minutes from Ellis Hancox, Aaron Lang and Owen Pye saw Garstang Reserves come from behind to win 3-1 at Charnock Richard Reserves, rallying after Mohammed Butt had put the hosts in front.

Caton United and Kendal United drew 2-2, with goals from Elliot Bywater and Kayne Taylor cancelling out a quickfire double from Jordan Archer-Nelson and Bobby Moffat.

And Stoneclough and Storeys also ended level, with Lewis Greenhalgh striking just after the break to answer Joe Hoare’s 20th-minute opener.

Thornton Cleveleys Reserves went to the top of the Division One Reserve table, with Harry Johnson and Jake Mangan the scorers in a 2-0 win at Rossendale Reserves.

They are one point ahead of Fulwood Amateurs Reserves with both sides having one game left to play each.

And it was a big afternoon too for Poulton Reserves, who climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 victory at Lostock St Gerards Reserves, who had taken an early lead through Adam Whittaker.

Second-half strikes from Freddie Kenyon and Deontay Atkinson then turned the game on its head.

In the division’s other game, goals from Josh Welsh, Luke Sherwood and Callum Ellis were enough to eventually secure Coppull Reserves a 3-2 win over Tempest United Reserves, that victory coming despite Nick Skelly scoring twice.

Meanwhile, in one of the weekend’s two Division Two Reserve fixtures, Chipping Reserves moved closer to promotion, going top of the table after goals from Zach Wilson, Oscar Middlesbrough and Gareth Jones sealed a 3-2 win over Croston Sports Reserves, who found the net through Niall Maloney and Ben Davies.

That means Haslingden St Mary’s Reserves are now in second after they played out a 1-1 draw with Hesketh Bank Reserves in which James Goodyear cancelled out a goal from Owen Cuerden.
