Famous five revel in cup shock victories

Kendal United hit seven to stun neighbours Milnthorpe Corinthians while Croston, Hesketh Bank, Walney Island and Pause United beat higher level teams as cup ties took centre stage yesterday, writes ROSS CHAPMAN.

Let’s start with cup action - in the third round of the Richardson Cup, Division Two side Kendal United convincingly beat Premier Division outfit Milnthorpe Corinthians 7-0 in a local derby.

Jamie Looker scored a hat trick, Joe Hodgson bagged a brace and Brody Moffat and Jamie Harris also got on the scoresheet.

Hesketh Bank of Division One secured their progression after a 2-1 win over Premier Division Hurst Green.

Hesketh Bank did fall behind early on in the game as Jordan Monk struck for Hurst Green, but Lewis Johnson found an equaliser, before Kevin Edgar’s winner with six minutes left to play.

CMB eased past Garstang Reserves in a 4-0 away win.

They took the lead thanks to an own goal, which was followed by Anthony Hough, Carl Grimshaw and Charlie Scholes finding the net.

Fulwood Amateurs got the better of Lostock St Gerards as this all-Premier Division clash ended 3-1.

Spencer Lucas sent them into half time a goal to the good and Owen Watkinson doubled the lead four minutes after the restart.

Despite Alex Caunce halving the deficit three minutes later, Watkinson added his second and Fulwood Amateurs’ third to make sure of their progression to the quarter finals.

Rossendale earned a 2-1 win on the road against Carnforth Rangers.

The visitors’ goals came courtesy of Joe Howarth and Teal Amos before Joe Jobling got one back for Carnforth.

The West Lancs League’s top side Tempest United made it to the last eight with a 1-0 victory against a resilient Storeys of Lancaster, thanks to a late Sam Parkinson goal.

Blackpool Wren Rovers came out on top in a tense penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw at Eagley.

Aiden Burrows gave them the lead late in the first half before the hosts levelled through Callum Scrutton, but it was Wren Rovers who triumphed 4-3 from 12 yards.

Turton received a bye to the quarter finals.

In the first round of the Presidents Cup, Croston Sports beat Haslingden St Marys of the division above 1-0, thanks to a 38th-minute goal from Harvey Parker.

Freckleton held on to get a 3-2 win away to Crooklands Casuals.

Graham Lyons scored twice inside half an hour to put the visitors into a strong position at the break, but Kyle Delves made it 1-2 with 65 minutes played.

However, just five minutes after that, Sam Dawson restored Freckleton’s two-goal cushion and, despite Ethan Townson’s 95th-minute strike, they showed just enough to get the win and progress.

Poulton secured a 3-1 win over Stoneclough thanks to two late goals.

George Byrne and Jordan Wignall netted for their respective sides and the scores stayed level for the majority of the game.

However, Ralf Threlfall-Newton gave Poulton the advantage on 82 minutes and it was doubled five minutes later.

Lytham Town comfortably beat Kendal County 3-0 thanks to a double from Noah Fluss and a Rory Kelly goal.

Askam United, Cleator Moor Celtic, Slyne with Hest and Whitehaven all have byes to the next round.

In the second round of the Challenge Cup, Division Two leaders Pause United beat Astley and Buckshaw of Division One 1-0 thanks to a 73rd minute strike from Joel Davidson.

Bamber Bridge Reserves defeated Mill Hill 4-1 with Lewis Pilgrim getting a hat trick before Jude Caskey put the game beyond any doubt; Mill Hill’s goal was scored by Richard Jebb.

Thornton Cleveleys edged out Dalton United in a 2-1 away win.

Billy Cartmel and Will Hutchings gave the away side a two goal lead before Scott McDonald got one back on 72 minutes, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback.

Division Two side Walney Island knocked out Division One leaders Millom, winning 4-3 in a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes.

In the quarter finals of the Stewart Rowe Memorial Cup, Haslingden St Marys Reserves earned a 3-2 win over Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves.

Charlie Howard’s strike and a second half James Goodyear double helped them to the semi finals, while Wren Rovers’ goals both came from Charlie King.

There was just one game in the Premier Division, as Whitehaven drew 1-1 with Burscough Richmond.

Paul Lomax cancelled out Zach Carberry’s opener to give the division’s bottom side a valuable point.

In Division One, Holker Old Boys Reserves claimed a 4-2 away win at Chipping.

The scores were level at the break as Max Bryden responded to Jake Lamb’s deadlock breaker on four minutes, but the visitors took control in the second 45.

Faryl Foster scored twice before the hour mark, after which Chipping got one back through Finltan McGuire, however Jack Tyerman scored Holker’s fourth to seal the three points.

In Division Two, Charnock Richard Reserves came from a goal down to beat Euxton Villa Reserves 4-3 on the road.

Danny Regan gave Charnock the lead on 15 minutes but Euxton Villa came out stronger in the second half and turned the game around inside 11 minutes with goals from James Hale and Ethan Danku.

The game was to take another twist though, as Arrandale Richards made it all square once more on 65 minutes and would add his second, but not before Danny Hobbs got in on the goalscoring act.

Thomas Henderson got one back for the hosts with five minutes on the clock but Charnock held on for a dramatic win.

Caton United and Hawcoat Park were made to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Jack Curwen opened the scoring early on but Charlie Thompson levelled before the break.

Caton got themselves in front again midway through the second half when Brad Shuttleworth found the net, but Hawcoat Park issued a second response of the game through Diesel Wilkes.

Next, to Reserve Division One, where a ruthless CMB Reserves beat Poulton Reserves 5-1.

Chris McCrory opened the scoring inside the first minute and CMB only added to the scoresheet from then on.

Emmet Ryan made it two before a Josh Pope hat trick; Iwo Gospodarczyk scored Poulton’s consolation in between his second and third goals.

Coppull United Reserves moved themselves further away from the drop zone with 4-1 victory at home to Rossendale Reserves.

Scott Hendy scored twice, with the other goals coming from Alex Dodoaca and Jack Ellis.

Fulwood Amateurs Reserves are up to second after coming from a goal down to beat Tempest United Reserves 2-1.

Alex McKenzie gave Tempest a 1-0 lead at the break but Alfie Raymond equalised two minutes after the restart, before Rhys Kane scored the winner on 80 minutes.

Eagley Reserves gained a big three points on the road as they won 2-1 at Lostock St Gerards Reserves.

Eagley’s strikes came from Charlie Needham and Kenny Corvelli, either side of Dan Fryer’s for Lostock.

Reserve Division Two leaders Hesketh Bank Reserves continued their strong form with a 5-1 win at home to Lytham Town Reserves.

Nathan Gonzales and Jak Brennan bagged braces and Harry Delaney also scored in a five-star display, with Lytham’s only goal coming from Dan Chesworth.

Second placed Thornton Cleveleys A kept the pressure on the leaders with a 4-2 home win against Pause United Reserves.

Owen Wilson gave Pause the lead but Dom Ritchie equalised on the stroke of half time.

Josh Alderson put the hosts ahead but Luke Fairclough levelled things up.

However, Thornton Cleveleys A took charge in the final 25 minutes with Ritchie making it 3-2 and Will Cooper adding a fourth in the final minutes.

An outstanding second half from Caton United Reserves saw them beat Storeys Reserves 4-0.

Sam Hodgson broke the deadlock on 59 minutes before Leon Lyon got a second, Hodgson added another and Tyrone Jameson made it four in added time.

Milnthorpe Corinthians secured a 2-0 home win against Croston Sports Reserves thanks to goals from Jamie Heddle and Shane McQuillan.

Hurst Green Reserves secured a 3-1 win at Stoneclough Reserves.

Will Nicholls got them off to a flyer with less than 60 seconds played before an Elliott Beaver penalty levelled things up.

Tony Williams restored the lead on the hour before Nicholls got his second and Hurst Green’s third.
