Freckleton win six-pointer as league remembers Paul Fiddler

Freckleton won a six-pointer at the bottom of Division One at Southport Hesketh on a day the league's sides paid tribute to Lytham Town stalwart Paul Fiddler.

Mr Fiddler, of Lytham Town FC, was killed last Saturday on the A59 in Longton in a tragic accident during Storm Darragh.

All member clubs were asked to hold a minute's silence or applause in honour of Paul before Saturday's games.

In the final seconds of regular time, they found a leveller: Tom Broadfoot rescued a point and could have won it even later but saw an injury time penalty saved.

Leaders Tempest United were on their way to three points but a late Rossendale goal meant they had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Jordan Pendlebury must have thought he’d scored the winning goal with five minutes remaining, but Ricco Pembele equalised in the last minute of normal time, as the gap between Tempest and Burscough Richmond remains two points.

There was a change at the top of Division One as second hosted first.
