Hawcoat in seventh heaven as fine season continues

Hawcoat Park notched their seventh league win of the season on Saturday - the same amount of league wins as they mustered in the previous two seasons combined, writes ROSS CHAPMAN with pictures of Pennington v Freckleton in the LFA Shield by PAUL HUNT.

In the Premier Division, Rossendale - who are unbeaten at home but have struggled on the road - got their first away victory of the season with a 4-0 win at Cleator Moor Celtic.

Tom Hartley’s penalty put them a goal up at half time before Ricco Pembele’s hat trick in the second 45.

Whitehaven were 3-0 winners at home to Lostock St Gerards, with Gabriel Lee getting two goals and Josh Hilton also on the scoresheet.

Hurst Green secured a 2-1 home win over Eagley thanks to a Jordan Monk brace.

Skylar Wright netted a consolation for the visitors late in the day.

Milnthorpe Corinthians came from a goal down to beat Coppull United 2-1.

Jimmy McIver gave Coppull the lead on 16 minutes but it did not last long.

Jonny Voortman levelled things up later before Dan Taylor turned the game around with 10 minutes remaining of the first half.

That, however, was the last goal of the game and Milnthorpe came away with the three points.

Division One leaders Astley & Buckshaw picked up another win, this time beating Kendal County.

They took an early lead through the on-form Callum Williams but Connor Walmsley equalised just before half time.

Williams restored the advantage though and that was how it stayed, Astley & Buckshaw remain four points clear of second.

In second place are Millom, who were 1-0 winners on the road at Croston Sports - Reece Orton got the only goal of the game.

Askam United left it late to win 2-1 at Lytham Town.

Max Green opened the scoring for Askam 15 minutes in before Rory Kelly equalised just five minutes later.

The game looked to be heading for a draw but Callum Rayner scored in the 90th minute to give the away side all three points.

Third met fourth as Holker Old Boys took on Ulverston Rangers in a game that ended as a 2-2 draw.

Ulverston twice took the lead through Jack Milburn but his efforts were cancelled out by Tyler Spence and Harry Mellen.

In a game where a result would benefit both teams, Slyne with Hest drew 1-1 with Southport Hesketh, with Bevan Carr and Charlie Gray scoring for their respective sides.

As for Division Two, Kendal United were ruthless in front of goal as they beat Barnoldswick Town Reserves 8-3 away from home.

Marco Thompson gave Kendal an early lead before Harvey Everiss equalised on 22 minutes.

That leveller seemed to spark something in the visitors, who scored four goals in the remainder of that half - Jason Jones, Matthew Kennedy, Jamie Looker and Daniel Craig all finding the back of the net.

Looker added two more goals in the second half to register a hat trick before Matthew Kennedy got his second and Kendal United’s eighth.

Barnoldswick Town Reserves hadn’t given up though, they scored twice in the last 10 minutes to soften the blow ever so slightly, with goals from Bilaal Hassan and Nial Boardman.

Bamber Bridge Reserves recorded the weekend’s biggest win, a 7-0 victory against Galgate.

Lewis Pilgrim netted a hat trick (his second in two games) in 23 minutes, while Josh Ashcroft, Carson Greaves, Harvey Bradshaw and Chris Guest all got on the scoresheet.

And so to Hawcoat Park were comfortable winners on the road against local rivals Dalton United, who they beat 5-1.

Matty Roberts put the visitors ahead six minutes in before Scott McDonald’s equaliser.

Hawcoat Park were quick to regain the lead thanks to Joe Mitchell and pushed on from there.

Kieran Culley and Roberts got the third and fourth for the away side before the half time whistle was sounded, giving the hosts a mountain to climb.

Culley got his second early in the second half and that rounded off the goal action in Dalton-in-Furness.

Euxton Villa Reserves earned a 3-2 win to Walney Island to continue their unbeaten run at home, but it was the visitors who took the lead.

Jack Litherland put Walney Island a goal up inside nine minutes but Jacob Hancock made it all square.

David Prout then gave Euxton Villa the lead heading into half time.

Jordan Chubb brought Walney Island level midway through the second half but just nine minutes later, Prout restored the hosts’ advantage, and they went home with the win.

Thornton Cleveleys Reserves recorded a 2-1 win at home to Garstang Reserves, with Oliver Grimshaw and Sam Cross getting the goals before a late Rory Walmsley penalty for Garstang.

In Reserve Division One, Tempest United Reserves got their first away win of the season in style, beating Rossendale Reserves 7-1.

Nobab Mian gave Rossendale the lead but, once Tempest equalised on the stroke of half time through Alex McKenzie, the visitors became relentless in front of goal.

McKenzie added two more goals in the second half to get himself a hat trick, while the other four came from Josh Firth, James Dean, Lewis Jones and an own goal.

CMB Reserves beat Turton Reserves 3-2 in a close-run game.

Turton went ahead on the 10th minute through James Buckley but CMB levelled not long afterwards with Lewis Cullen’s effort.

Josh Pope gave CMB the lead for the first time in the game before, once again, Turton scored 10 minutes into a half to equalise - Ryan Milne the scorer this time.

Jack Locke netted the winner with five minutes of regular time remaining.

Top of the table Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves secured three points on the road with a 3-1 win at Chipping Reserves.

Alfie Tomlinson gave them the lead ten minutes before half time, after which Chipping restarted quickly and equalised thanks to Gareth Jones.

However, the away side regained the advantage after Luke Smith’s goal and Robbie Hulme made sure of the win.

Coppull United Reserves earned a 2-0 win over Lostock St Gerards with second half goals from Callum Ellis and Joe Gallaway making the difference.

One goal was all that was in it as Poulton Reserves travelled to Haslingden St Marys Reserves, the visitors getting the 1-0 win thanks to Nathan Feeney.

A late goal for either side in the game between Fulwood Amateurs Reserves and Eagley Reserves kept the game alive right to the end in a 2-2 draw.

Fulwood Amateurs took the lead 20 minutes in through Joey Higham but Eagley brought themselves level on the hour, Zach Browne getting the equaliser.

Jack Dawson put the hosts back in front on 89 minutes but the late drama wasn’t over as Eagley made it all square again, Matthew Akilli finding the equaliser.

There were 17 goals across four games in Reserve Division Two, starting with Carnforth Rangers Reserves’ 5-1 win at Stoneclough Reserves which moves them up to third.

They have a perfect home record but had not won on the road until Saturday and, after Mike Costello’s early goal for Stoneclough, they responded unforgivingly with two goals from Will Mead, an own goal and strikes from Josh Collins and George Drake.

Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves also enjoyed a comfortable away win, 4-0 against Pause United Reserves.

Tom Jackson scored either side of goals from Dan Nowell and Aaron Maddison to respond following three consecutive defeats.

Thornton Cleveleys A moved up to second with a 3-0 win against Storeys of Lancaster Reserves.

Reuben Williams opened the scoring before Will Cooper bagged a brace.

Fulwood Amateurs A came from a goal down to beat Hurst Green Reserves 3-1.

Hurst Green took the lead through John Stead but the eventual winners responded through the division’s top scorer Wesley Onoma who didn’t just level the scoring, but also put his side ahead on the hour mark.

Josh Taylor made sure of a Fulwood Amateurs A win with five minutes to go.

Also this Saturday, it was the second round of the Lancashire Amateur Shield.

Holders Fulwood Amateurs have made it through with a 6-1 win against Elton Vale, who have recent history of beating West Lancs sides in this competition.

However, Hesketh Bank, who won the shield in 2022-23, were knocked out at the hands of Golborne Sports.

Other West Lancs sides who have made it through are Stoneclough, CMB, Poulton, Freckleton, Mill Hill and Burscough Richmond.

Also through, following tense penalty shootouts, are Chipping, Haslingden St Marys and Turton.

Blackpool Wren Rovers, Caton United, Crooklands Casuals, Storeys of Lancaster, Tempest United and Pause United all bow out of the competition.

Where next?

Storeys up to fourth in Division Two promotion race Storeys had the 'J squad' to thank for their win at Charnock Richard Reserves - namely Joe, Jim and Josh - as they moved into fourth in Division Two writes ROSS CHAPMAN with pictures of that game from STEVE TAYLOR.
