King Kev on fire as cup gets underway

Kevin Edgar smashed six goals for Hesketh Bank as the first round of the Richardson Cup kicked into action in the September sun, writes ROSS CHAPMAN with pictures from Fulwood v Poulton by GRAHAM LANCASTER.

The Richardson Cup got underway on Saturday and there were some big scorelines in the First Round.

Starting with the most comprehensive victory of the round, Hesketh Bank got a 9-1 win over Hawcoat Park.

Kevin Edgar scored six of their goals, five of them in the first half, the other three coming from Harry Greenhall, Josh Brierley and Lewis Johnson.

Reece Cresswell got Hawcoat Park’s solo reply.

Askam United got the local bragging rights, beating Millom 8-3 away from home.

Joe Tindale and Max Green both scored hat tricks, while Jack Stroker and Corey Fittes also netted.

For Millom, Theo Wilson got a brace and Harry Cowley also scored.

Holker Old Boys Reserves were on the right side of a nine-goal result, beating Galgate 6-3. No goalscorers were supplied.

Crooklands Casuals were 5-2 winners Barnoldswick Town Reserves.

It was 2-2 at half time with Kyle Delves and Lee Irving scoring for Crooklands Casuals, while Ivan Otomo got both goals for ‘Barlick Reserves’.

The former took hold of the game in the second 45 though and, thanks to goals from Sam Graham and Harvey and Lee Irving, got a 5-2 win.

Stoneclough of Division Two beat Astley & Buckshaw, the current leaders of Division One, in a 3-2 win.

Lewis Greenhall scored twice for Stoneclough, with Jordan Wignall getting their other goal, while Lucas Gomall netted twice for Astley & Buckshaw.

Kendal United beat Dalton United 4-2, with Jamie Looker scoring twice and Frank Hine and Jamie Harris also getting goals.

Dalton United got two goals in the last 20 minutes, both from Gareth Jones.

Garstang Reserves got a 3-2 win at Mill Hill.

Sam Burton put Garstang ahead before Mill Hill turned the game around through Curtis Poole and Aaron Evans.

However, Rory Walmsley scored twice for Garstang to put them back in front and ultimately send them to the next round.

Carnforth Rangers were 3-2 winners against Thornton Cleveleys Reserves in a game that had a hectic final 15 minutes.

Joe Jobling put Carnforth Rangers ahead just under half an hour in but Cole Pratt scored twice for Thornton Cleveleys Reserves.

Jobling got his and Carnforth Rangers’ second of the game before Josh Hadwin got the decider.

Slyne with Hest got a 3-1 win against Caton United, who took the lead through Ste Wearing.

Eddie Hemmington got the equaliser before Lawson Carr got two goals in the second half.

Croston Sports were 2-1 winners against Walney Island.

They took the lead early on through Scott Hendy and John Sharples doubled the lead just before the break, before Joe Hayes halved the deficit on the hour mark.

Lytham Town and Bamber Bridge Reserves drew 4-4 before Lytham won 4-3 on penalties.

Will Eastham, Dan Stammers and Danny Scarlett (2) scored for Lytham, while ‘Brig’s goals came courtesy of Macauley Hopkins, Jordan Murdoch (2) and an own goal.

Storeys of Lancaster and Charnock Richard Reserves drew 2-2, with Storeys winning 4-3 on penalties.

Storeys took a 2-0 lead through Dan Metge and Josh Whittaker before Charnock levelled thanks to Will Fraser-Gray and Matthew Poole.

Kendal County drew 2-2 with Pause United, with the former coming out 4-2 winners on penalties.

Curtis Nicholson and Cameron Khan got Kendal County’s goals while Pause got theirs through early second half efforts from Joel Davidson and Ben Roberts.

Ulverston Rangers were 5-4 winners in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw with Chipping, with Shane Kelly and Aaron Quigley getting the goals.

The game was notable for the return of attacker Chris Wraighte for Ulverston - 18 months after suffering a double compound fracture.

He scored the winning penalty in the shoot-out much to the delight of his teammates.

Southport Hesketh and Turton drew 1-1 with Turton winning 7-6 on penalties.

James Mason got an early goal for Turton and Paul Simms got a late equaliser to send the game to penalties.

In the Premier Division, there were big wins for all of the top three sides, starting with Burscough Richmond who beat Eagley 7-1.

Billy Whittle and Zach Carberry both scored twice, while Lewis Corke, Jordan Lorde and Paul Bousique-Green also netted, while Eagley got on the scoresheet through an own goal.

Second placed Fulwood Amateurs beat Poulton 6-0, with Will Sim, Spencer Lucas and Yasin Rezaei all bagging braces.

League leaders Tempest United also put six past their opponents and overcame an early scare in the process, beating Lostock St Gerards 6-1.

Lewis Grant got an early goal for Lostock but Tempest quickly changed the complexion of the game, with strikes from Aaron Thorpe, Connor Griffiths and Jordan Pendlebury putting them 3-1 up at half time.

Oliver Groocock, Tom Booth and Josh Firth added three more goals for Tempest to make sure of a comfortable victory.

Haslingden St Marys produced a stellar performance in the final 20 minutes of their game, coming from 2-1 down to beat Coppull United 4-2.

Jack Ainscough put Haslingden ahead early on but two Coppull United goals in the opening six minutes of the second 45 from Jimmy McGiver and Jonty Mattock turned the game around.

That wouldn’t be the final twist though, as goals from Jack Cain, Charlie Yates and Alfie Edmondson in the 73rd, 82nd and 86th minutes gave Haslingden all three points.

Blackpool Wren Rovers beat Cleator Moor Celtic 3-0, thanks to a first half goal from Aiden Burrows and two late strikes from Tarren Moxon and Ric Seear.

CMB got a 3-1 away win at Milnthorpe Corinthians despite the hosts taking the lead.

Jonny Voortman put Milnthorpe ahead but CMB quickly replied, through an own goal, and took the lead on the stroke of half time thanks to Kyle Hienz.

Oliver Turner doubled CMB’s advantage just after the hour and that was how it ended.

There was late drama at Hurst Green as they beat Rossendale 1-0 thanks to a 95th minute goal from Jordan Monk.

In Reserve Division One, CMB Reserves came from 3-1 down to beat Haslingden St Marys 4-3.

James Goodyear put Haslingden two goals up inside 11 minutes before Jack Locke pulled one back at half time.

Zach Brierley put Haslingden 3-1 up and then CMB’s comeback began.

Locke and Jamie Grant made it 3-3, before Josh Pope’s goal in the 83rd minute gave CMB the lead and that was how it stayed.

Turton Reserves got a 2-1 victory against Fulwood Amateurs, who took the lead through Lucas Worswick, but Turton came back to win thanks to James Buckley and Declan Samson.

Second placed Lostock St Gerards Reserves beat Eagley Reserves 2-1 thanks to Dan Fryer and Ashton Cookson, while Ryan Farnworth got Eagley’s goal.

Brad Marsh scored twice as Rossendale Reserves got a 2-1 win over Coppull United Reserves, whose goal was scored by Alessio Degrassi.

Top of the table Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves were 1-0 winners at Poulton Reserves, with Ben Sayer getting the only goal.

Tempest United Reserves also got a 1-0, they took on Chipping Reserves - Danny Griffiths got the decisive goal.

The leaders of Reserve Division Two, Hesketh Bank Reserves, enjoyed a 7-2 win at Fulwood Amateurs A.

Thornton Cleveleys A were 3-1 winners at home over Carnforth Rangers Reserves.

Rob Lawson put Carnforth Rangers ahead but Adam Skinner levelled things up before the break, after which Josh Wood and Finlay Garratt scored to give Thornton Cleveleys the win.

Stoneclough Reserves beat Milnthorpe Corinthians 2-0 with goals from Brad Beazant and James Dean.

Croston Sports Reserves got a 2-1 away win at Pause United Reserves.

Charlie Nelson and Ewan Cheetham scored for them, while Ryan Yates got Pause’s goal.
