Landless winner is a Poulton coupon-buster

Poulton recorded a huge victory over third-placed Hurst Green to move away from the base of the table, writes THEO HEWSON-BETTS.

They are now four points clear of Southport Hesketh, who prop up the division.

Max Landless’ 60th-minute goal was the only one in the contest as the strugglers prevented Hurst Green from maintaining the pressure on an Euxton Villa side who are struggling for form.

Villa are yet to record a win in January and lost this Saturday to Vickerstown.

Ian Billington might have won a point for Euxton with his 89th-minute equaliser, only for Jackson Round to bag his second of the match and give home side, Vickerstown all three points in injury time.

Two of the league's top marksmen showed off their talents as Whitehaven earned a creditable draw with leaders Thornton Cleveleys.

Bobby Carter fired the home side into a 23rd minute lead before Dom Lawson struck before the break for his 25th goal of a remarkable season.

But the table-toppers couldn't find a way past their hosts as the game ended 1-1, with Whitehaven remaining fourth bottom.

Carl Eastwood’s double couldn’t prevent Slyne with Hest beating Blackpool Wren Rovers. Goals from Joe Cotton, Reece Pearce and Robbie Moorings ensured the visiting side were the victors on the day.

Southport Hesketh also fell to defeat, Coppull United coming out 1-0 winners in that one thanks to Jimmy McIver’s finish.

Turton are third bottom and won’t be buoyed by their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Fulwood Amateurs. Ryan Dodd and Lucas Weaver netted in that one.

CMB got their second win in as many weeks, Dylan Winstanley, so often the scorer for the sixth-placed side, bagged a brace, with Will Owen getting one as well.

Lytham Town were the team to fall to defeat, though Ross Ainsworth’s late consolation at least added a more positive bend to the scoreline.

Burscough Richmond also won 3-1. Tempest United were the losers in a game that saw all four goals scored before the break.

Adam Sutton, Danny Huyton and Jordan Lorde all scored within 10 minutes of each other to hand Burscough a huge advantage and, while Matthew Davies’ 45-minute effort might have been enough to give the Tempest supporters hope, ultimately, the second half didn’t live up to the billing of the first.

Division 1: Wyre win again

Wyre Villa continued their assault on the title with their win over Crooklands Casuals on Saturday.

Wyre won 3-0 in that game, with goals from Jude Watson, Isaac Loftus and Ryan Moore allowing the home side to stay within reach of Milnthorpe Corinthians, who currently occupy top-spot, but have played five games more than Richie Allen's men.

Even more remarkably, Wyre’s points tally is still affected by the -6 they received earlier in the season for fielding an ineligible player.

Milnthorpe, to their credit, did their part in keeping the gap as big as possible with their win over Stoneclough. Enoch Likoy and Stephen Yawson the difference-makers in that 2-0 victory.

Horwich St Marys Victoria had a stormer against Ulverston Rangers.

Matthew Hancock scored twice, with Matthew Makinson, Sam Parkinson and Ryan Lilley scoring too. Mark Jackson managed to get one for Ulverston to at least keep some respectability.

George Bond was the match-winner for Hesketh Bank, as they emerged victorious against Millom.

Kevin Edgar had opened the scoring for Hesketh, but the visitors were pegged back only three minutes later by Olly Pachul. Bond got his goal with half-hour left on the clock and Hesketh managed to hang on to the win.

Hawcoat Park beat Haslingden St Marys 3-0. Frankie Ellis scored twice in the first 11 minutes for the away side before Matthew Pickering added a third to put the game out of reach.

Eagley won 2-0 in their game against Kendal County. Rhys Hardie and Bailey Wallace scoring without reply to keep Eagley in the top four.

Lostock St Gerards rounded off a Division 1 weekend that had a spectacular amount of clean sheets with their 1-0 win over Askam United. Ben Ashcroft was the only scorer.

Division 2: Burnley’s brilliant home record continues

Of 12 games played at home this season, Burnley United have managed to win 10 of them, most recently a thrilling 3-2 victory over Dalton United.

Finishes from Harris Tomlinson and Joe Rodriguez (2), more than cancelled out the goals from Frazer Shand and Robert Baker, despite the latter’s goal with 12 minutes left to play setting up a nervy last stretch.

Carnforth Rangers were victorious also, beating Cartmel & District 3-1. Jonny Ash and Joe Smith put Carnforth ahead before Carl Davidson's goal gave Cartmel a glimmer of hope ahead of the break. The visitors were unable to make the momentum count however, and Damian Murphy's 85th-minute goal tied up the win for Carnforth.

Walney Island beat Galgate 3-1. Zach Walker and Kieran Solloway - who scored twice - condemned Jack Preston's goal to a footnote in the wider story of the game.

Chipping scored three without response in their beating of Freckleton. Harris Bailey kept up his good form in front of goal and Matthew Shorrock put the game beyond doubt.

Furness Rovers were unable to get past the stern challenge that was Rossendale. They fell to a 2-0 defeat courtesy on goals from Paul Stannard and Tom Hulme.

Division 1 Reserve: Pope's blessing leads CMB Reserves to heavy win

Josh Pope scored a hat-trick in CMB Reserves' 5-0 victory over Fulwood Amateurs Reserves. Harry Dixon also scored a brace in the last 10 minutes.

Two Steve McEwan penalties saw Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves triumph over Croston Sports Reserves. Martin McCubbin had initially equalised for the home side before McEwan scored his second from the spot.

John Stead's late double won Hurst Green Reserves three points against Euxton Villa Reserves. Ryan Thompson had scored twice in the first half to give Euxton the lead at the break, and cancel out Jame Nightingale's first half goal in the process, before Stead bagged twice to score a delightful comeback.

Sam Walker and Rob Heritage cancelled each other out in the game between Turton Reserves and Poulton Reserves. That game was 1-1 after it had taken 74 minutes for the deadlock to be broken.

It took longer for the first goal to go in though in the game between Burscough Richmond Reserves and Lostock St Gerards Reserves. Adam Whittaker scored the only goal of the match with 79 minutes played, winning the game for Lostock in the process.

Division 2 Reserve: Brickell gives Coppull United Reserves strong foundation for victory

Gregg Brickell's treble capped off a great afternoon for Coppull United Reserves.

Brickell's double in the first half added to the goal of Martin Williams pretty much guaranteed success before 35 minutes had been played. Callus Connerton scored late on for Storeys but Brickell's third, this one from the penalty spot, put the result beyond doubt.

Stephen Dunleavy scored both goals for Rossendale Reserves in their 2-0 win over Carnforth Rangers Reserves whilst Fulwood Amateurs A played out a thrilling 4-4 draw against Hesketh Bank Reserves.
