No Pause for breath in 20-goal thriller

Pause United and Fulwood Amateurs A smashed 20 goals between them in one of the most remarkable league games in recent history, writes ROSS CHAPMAN with pictures from Charnock Res v Hawcoat Park by STEVE TAYLOR and Poulton Res v CMB Res by DONNA ARTIS.

Starting in the Premier Division, Tempest United remain top of the table after a 4-2 win at previously unbeaten Fulwood Amateurs.

Sam Parkinson gave Tempest an early lead before Jordan Pendlebury doubled the advantage.

However, Spencer Lucas - already on eight goals for the season - equalised for Fulwood Amateurs with two quick fire goals.

Tempest regained the lead in the second half thanks to Aaron Thorpe’s penalty before George Scott sealed a statement win.

Hurst Green picked up their first win of the season as they beat Whitehaven 4-1.

They were two goals to the good, both courtesy of from Jordan Monk from the penalty spot, before Taylor Hambling halved Whitehaven’s deficit just before half time.

Scott Craven and Harvey Monk extended Hurst Green’s lead after the break and that was how it finished.

Haslingden St Marys got a first away win of the season with a 4-2 victory over Wyre Villa.

Lewis Hanley put Haslingden in front before Jack Hayton levelled things up.

Tom Hulme and Charlie Holt gave Haslingden a two goal cushion before half time and Hulme added Haslingden’s fourth six minutes after the restart.

Jack Hayton got his second to tighten the margin of defeat.

Burscough Richmond got a 3-2 win away from home over Cleator Moor Celtic.

Saul Guffogg gave the visitors the lead and, for a long period of the game, it looked like that may have been the only and decisive goal of the game.

However, Thomas Crawley levelled things up for Cleator Moor Celtic.

The game wasn’t all square for long though and Burscough took charge - Saul Guffogg’s second and Billy Whittle’s goal gave them a 3-1 lead before Luke Close got one back.

It’s two home wins in two at home for Eagley, they beat Rossendale 3-2.

Elikan Oswald put the hosts in front before Teal Amos levelled the scoring.

Harry Waterhouse regained Eagley’s lead but Amos got his and Rossendale’s second.

Lewis Nolan’s goal in the 90th minute got the winner for Eagley.

CMB sit second in the Premier Division after a 2-1 win at home to Poulton.

Carl Grimshaw got both of CMB’s goals in the first half before Max Landless halved the deficit late in the day.

Lostock St Gerards got a 2-1 victory away to Coppull United.

They scored in the opening seconds of the game thanks to Luke Goodeve before Mason McKay made it two, with Huzaifa Atchia getting Coppull’s goal.

Blackpool Wren Rovers and Milnthorpe Corinthians drew 2-2, with the former taking the lead twice.

Matthew Sillett and Joe Preston got the goals for the hosts while Jamie Looker and Henry Brownlie scored for the visitors.

In Division One, there 10 ten goals at Bottomdale Road as Turton beat Slyne with Hest 7-3 away from home to give them a first win of the season.

Finlay Cooper gave Turton an early lead before Slyne, for the first and only time during the game, took the lead through Lawson Carr and Ryan Clark’s goals in quick succession.

Dominic Farrimond made it two-all at the break before Cooper got his second of the game to regain Turton’s initial lead.

Bevan Carr then equalised for Slyne but the visitors then took control of the game with goals from Kasper Ganzarski, Harry Jones, Daryl Prudnikov and Finlay Cooper who completed a hat trick.

Elsewhere, Askam United got a comprehensive 5-0 victory against Southport Hesketh.

Joe Tindale got the only goal of the first half but Callum Rayner, Max Green and a double from Aiden Pearson gave them a comfortable win.

Chipping also had a good day as they beat Crooklands Casuals thanks to two first half goals from Harris Bailey as well as Hugo Strand and Aaron Quigley getting onto the scoresheet.

Ulverston Rangers’ perfect away record continued as they beat Kendal County 2-0 thanks to goals from Jack Milburn and Zach Mooney.

Peter Atkinson-Jones and Josh Brierley scored as Hesketh Bank beat Lytham Town 2-0.

Astley and Buckshaw’s 100% record came to an end as Carnforth Rangers got a 1-0 win over them, Joe Jobling getting the only goal.

The new team at the top are Holker Old Boys Reserves, who beat Croston Sports 1-0 thanks to Charlie McGladdery.

Freckleton and Millom played out a 2-2 draw, with the hosts getting an opener through an own goal.

Jed Philip and Ben Macdonald turned the game around but Dan Threlfall rescued a point for Freckleton.

In Division Two, the top two sides met as Walney Island took on Mill Hill, with the game ending 3-3.

Louis Almond gave Mill Hill the lead before Jack Litherland equalised.

Walney Island then got in front themselves five minutes into the second half, Ryan Close getting the goal.

An own goal put Mill Hill back level again before the game turned on its head once again and Curtis Poole got the visitors in front.

However, Kieran Solloway’s goal in the dying moments of the game rested a point for Walney Island, but it’s Mill Hill who remain top of the tree.

Charnock Richard Reserves got a convincing 5-0 win over Hawcoat Park.

Alfie Hodgkinson, George Rose, Cole Heaton, Jordan Darr and Fred Matthews all scored as the side delivered a five star performance.

Another team who were victorious by that scoreline were Stoneclough against Caton United and they too had a different scorer for every goal.

Aagil Campbell, Noah Bracegirdle, Jumaane Meggoe, Sam Walker and Lewis Greenhall all got themselves on the scoresheet.

Three first half goals helped Pause United as they beat Thornton Cleveleys Reserves 4-2.

Ben Roberts and Zac Clark gave Pause a two goal lead before David McPherson pulled a goal back for Thornton Cleveleys Reserves.

Zac Clark got his second and Pause’s third but the visitors once again made things interesting as an own goal cut their lead to just one goal.

Jordan Lynch relieved any doubts over his side getting three points, getting their fourth of the afternoon.

Euxton Villa Reserves held firm to stop a late Kendal United comeback in a 3-2 win.

David Prout opened the scoring for Euxton Villa 20 minutes in but Lewis Airey equalised just moments later.

It wasn’t until over halfway into the second half when the goal action resumed, Mackenzie Brown giving Euxton Villa Reserves the lead once again.

James Hale added their third before Jamie Harris gave Kendal United a potential lifeline but they couldn’t find an equaliser.

Storeys of Lancaster were 2-1 victors at Dalton United, Josh Cunningham and Joe Waring getting Storeys’ goals before Jonas Baker netted Dalton’s solo reply.

Finally in Division Two, Galgate and Bamber Bridge Reserves played out a 0-0 draw.

In Reserve Division One, Fulwood Amateurs Reserves were on the right side of a seven-goal thriller as they came from 2-0 down to beat Tempest United Reserves 4-3.

Mitch Davenport and Owen Brown put Tempest Reserves two to the good at the break but Fulwood Amateurs Reserves responded in style.

An Issak Webster double levelled things up before Harry Wignall completed a very impressive comeback.

Tempest Reserves did respond and equalise through Owen Brown’s second of the day but a Louis Botes goal deep in stoppage time gave Fulwood Amateurs Reserves the win.

Poulton Reserves got their first win of the season and did it in fashion, beating CMB Reserves 5-1.

Will Donegani, Irving Dorman and Adam Jennings put Poulton three up but not long after the third goal, Lewis Cullen got one back.

However, Poulton ensured that would be CMB’s only goal of the afternoon and added two more through Reece Russell and an Adam Jennings penalty.

Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves got a 3-2 win on the road against Turton Reserves.

Ryan Nickless opened the scoring for the visitors within a minute of the referee’s whistle and Kaleb Deans made it two just over half an hour in.

Declan Simpson halved the deficit just before the hour but, only five minutes later, Blackpool Wren Rovers’ two-goal cushion was restored through Harvey Walford.

Sam Hulme made it 2-3 with eight minutes to go but that is how it finished.

Lostock St Gerards Reserves are top of the division after a 2-1 win over Coppull United Reserves.

Ben Bicknell gave Coppull Reserves the lead but second half goals from Ashton Cookson and Dan Fryer turned the game around.

Chipping Reserves got a 2-1 victory away to Haslingden St Marys Reserves, with Zach Wilson and Gareth Jones scoring for Chipping and Haslingden’s goal coming from James Goodyear.

Elsewhere, Eagley Reserves beat Rossendale Reserves 2-1 - an early goal from Brad Marsh put Rossendale ahead but Eagley responded.

In Reserve Division Two, there were 47 goals across five games, with just under half of those coming in one game!

Fulwood Amateurs A and Pause United Reserves were involved in one of, if not the, highest scoring game in West Lancashire League history, the latter coming away 12-8 victors.

Fulwood Amateurs took a 5-4 lead into halftime after a rollercoaster of a first half.

Pause United went two up inside the first 10 minutes through James Eccles and Jamie Wilkes but Fulwood Amateurs then began the first comeback of the game.

Ali Mosheni, Liam Taylor and Theo Collinson all scored to make it 3-2.

Josh Downs levelled things up before Jacob Whalley restored Fulwood Amateurs’ lead.

The final two goals of the first half was an Oliver Wilson equaliser and a Liam Taylor strike that regained the hosts’ advantage once more.

However, in the first 10 minutes of the second half, the scoreline turned over again, with Pause Reserves taking a 6-5 lead through Alex Requena and Jamie Wilkes.

There were four goals in four second half minutes, Ryan Worrall and Oliver Wilson scoring for Pause and Liam Taylor and Wesley Onoma for Fulwood Amateurs to make it 8-7 to Pause.

The constantly changing answer to who looked likelier to get the three points then became much clearer as Pause took a 10-7 lead, Worrall and Jack Preston netting.

Onoma got Fulwood Amateurs’ last goal of the game before Jack Preston completed a hat trick, as well as the goal action.

Hurst Green Reserves beat Croston Sports Reserves 7-3 in another crazy game.

Hurst Green took a 2-0 lead early on - Sam Hayes and Daniel Mort getting those goals - but Croston Sports then turned the game around in a swift fashion.

Ashton Zitnik, Jamie Lynch and Gian Johal’s goals all within eight first half minutes suggested a very close game but as the game went on, Hurst Green took more and more control.

Freddie Hardy sent them into the break level before the side really began to dominate the game in the second half.

William Nicholls scored twice, one goal either side of the half, with both Daniel Mort and Sam Hayes getting their second of the match.

Thornton Cleveleys A got a very impressive away victory at Caton United Reserves, winning 8-1.

Will Cooper, Josh Wood (2), Owen Bennett, Cole Pratt, Dan Blackburn and Jquan Richards all scored before Caton Reserves could net a response.

They got a consolation on 83 minutes through Joseph Jenks but Will Cooper’s second of the game restored and secured their seven-goal lead.

Carnforth Rangers Reserves beat Stoneclough Reserves 5-0, with Josh Hadwin scoring four goals - two in each half - and Eric Thompson getting the side’s fifth.

Finally, Hesketh Bank Reserves remain top of the division after goals from David Yates, Cameron Patterson and Macauley Smith gave them a 3-0 win at Lytham Town Reserves.
