Pause on hold while fresh life breathed into Prem and Div One

The champagne remains on ice at Division Two promotion hopefuls Pause United as CMB nudged ahead in the Premier Division title race, writes ROSS CHAPMAN with photos of Askam v Millom by DARREN HEAVYSIDE.

First to cup action and it will be an all West Lancashire League final in the Westmorland Senior Cup as Premier Division side Milnthorpe Corinthians beat Appleby 3-2 and Division Two’s Kendal United won 3-1 at Kirkoswald.

The final takes place on Friday April 11 at Kendal Town FC.

In the quarter finals of the Stewart Rowe Memorial Cup, Hurst Green Reserves beat Rossendale Reserves 2-0 thanks to a Reece Rhodes effort on 30 minutes and a Liam Owen penalty midway through the second half.

To the Premier Division next, where there is a change at the top of the table.

CMB are the new leaders; they secured a 2-1 win at home to Rossendale and results elsewhere went in their favour.

Dan Crook’s spot kick opened the scoring on the stroke of half time, five minutes after which, Adam McInniss equalised.

Alex Leigh found a winner for CMB with 10 minutes remaining to take them to the summit.

Blackpool Wren Rovers earned a 2-1 win over the now-second Tempest United.

The division’s joint top scorer Ric Seear (23) broke the deadlock on 12 minutes with a penalty kick before Tom Booth equalised six minutes later.

Luke Harris restored Wren Rovers’ advantage with seconds to play until the half time whistle, and that’s how it stayed.

Haslingden St Marys enjoyed an impressive away day with a 4-0 win at Fulwood Amateurs.

Lewis Hanley, Charlie Ridge and Alex Grice made it 3-0 with only half an hour played and James Wright extended the lead to four on 68 minutes.

Haslingden still have the top three to play so could have a big say in the destiny of the title.

Two early goals for third place Burscough Richmond sealed a 2-0 victory over Lostock St Gerards.

Saul Guffog’s effort inside two minutes and Matty Hawkins’ effort inside 20 secured the three points.

Hurst Green won 2-1 at Coppull United thanks to goals from Ryan Cattermole and Jordan Monk either side of an own goal in the hosts’ favour.

Cleator Moor Celtic and Eagley drew 1-1, Lewis Nolan’s early opener was cancelled out by Owen O’Neill.

In Division One, a ruthless Hesketh Bank beat Croston Sports 7-2 to remain in third.

Kevin Edgar scored a hat trick - the first of his three coming inside 30 seconds again - Peter Atkinson-Jones bagged a brace and Lewis Johnson and George Bond also found the net, with Croston Sports' responses courtesy of Josh Hill and Ric Tomlinson.

Carnforth Rangers secured a comprehensive 5-0 win over Freckleton.

A Joe Wilkinson double and goals from Jordan Darby, Joe Jobling and Sonny Graham gave them the three points.

Ulverston Rangers earned a 4-2 win at home to Lytham Town.

Jack Gardner scored twice before half time for Ulverston, first to open the scoring and then to bring things level after Rory Kelly and Danny Scarlett found the net for Lytham in between the two strikes.

The hosts took control late on in the second half with Lewis Jones and Jack Miburn’s goals securing the win.

Holker Old Boys Reserves came from a goal down to beat Astley & Buckshaw 3-1.

Freddie Lawton cancelled out Jordan Mitchell’s opener on the hour mark, before two late Faryl Foster strikes put daylight between the two sides.

The division leaders Millom rescued a point away to Askam United in a 3-3 draw.

Aiden Pearson and Ben Macdonald’s efforts for their respective sides had made it one a piece at the break.

Max Green scored twice in five second half minutes to make it 3-1 to the hosts, before goals from Jordan Williams and Jamie Pattinson stroke in the fifth and seventh minutes of added time in a grandstand finish.

Kendal County came from a goal down on two occasions to beat Turton 3-2.

Ben McCabe netted on 25 minutes to break the deadlock but Luke Selby levelled with five minutes of the second half played.

Turton regain the lead thanks to an unfortunate own goal but on 75 minutes, Dan Ferguson made it all square once more.

In the 88th minute Jake Blamire found the crucial winner to give Kendal County a big three points as they moved further away from the relegation battle.

Chipping secured a 3-1 win away at Southport Hesketh.

Joe Melling opened the scoring early in the first half, and that was all that separated the sides at the break, however Jake Preston equalised on the 58th minute.

Chipping regained the lead later on though, with Zach Wilson finding the net before Kane Froggat doubled the advantage.

Crooklands Casuals beat Slyne with Hest 3-0 away from home thanks to Kyle Delves and a Lee Irving double.

In Division Two, Euxton Villa Reserves emphatically beat Galgate 10-0.

Liam McNally (3), Thomas Henderson (3), Ryan Fox, James Hale, Mackenzie Lewis and Ethan Danku all got on the scoresheet.

There was another stunning scoreline in Thornton Cleveleys as their reserves beat Mill Hill 8-0.

Joe Hulme (3), Billy Cartmell (2), Cole Pratt, Danny Hadcraft and Finn Villa got the goals as they overtook their opponents in the table and moved up to sixth.

Storeys of Lancaster moved back up to third after a 6-2 win at Hawcoat Park.

They enjoyed a five-star first half as braces from Joe Waring and Joel Creech and a Tim Last effort put them well beyond reach at half time.

Matty Roberts got two back in the second half but those goals were either side of Waring’s third and Storey’s sixth.

Pause United are now just one point away from promotion from Division Two to Division One after a 3-0 win at home to Garstang Reserves.

Tom Knight, Zac Clark - now on 32 for the season - and Jack Preston found the net for the leaders.

Pause’s ascent would have been confirmed this weekend had Stoneclough lost, but the promotion party was delayed as Stoneclough drew 2-2 at Charnock Richard Reserves, who left it late to rescue a point.

Joe Howlin got the visitors off to a flying start within 60 seconds and followed it up with amother just after the hour mark.

However, Dan Metge halved the deficit on 77 minutes before Cole Heaton made it all square with one minute of normal time remaining.

Dalton United fought hard to hang on to a 3-2 win against Bamber Bridge Reserves.

It was Brig who took the lead initially, Macauley Hopkins found the net with just three minutes played.

Keith Holmes equalised midway through the first 45 and Robbie McMurdo turned the game on its head shortly after the restart.

Matthew Pearson’s goal on 71 minutes looked like it may have sealed the win for Dalton but their opponents pushed and got one back through Dylan Agnew from 12 yards on 84 minutes.

Dalton United hung on and claimed the three points despite late pressure from Brig.

In Reserve Division One, second placed Lostock St Gerards Reserves continue to apply pressure on Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves at the top following a 3-1 win against Fulwood Amateurs Reserves.

Dan Fryer broke the deadlock on the half hour mark before an own goal inside the first minute of the second half doubled their lead, which was extended further by Aaron Reeding on 75 minutes.

George Lowe got one back five minutes later but LSG secured the win and are now just three points behind the leaders.

Turton Reserves won 2-0 away from home against Eagley Reserves thanks to a Ryan Milne brace in a crucial game in the fight for the survival - Turton remain in the bottom two on goal difference.

Hesketh Bank Reserves remain four points clear at the top of Reserve Division Two as two goals from Jak Brennan and a Sean Muchenje effort gave them a 3-0 win versus Stoneclough Reserves.

The team just behind them, Carnforth Rangers Reserves, earned a 2-1 away victory over Caton United Reserves thanks to a Rob Lawson double, his goals came either side of Charlie Smith’s strike for Caton.

Finally, Storeys Reserves won 2-1 at home to Croston Sports - Oliver McDermott and Jack Parker’s goals for their respective sides meant that it was level in the closing stages, that was until an 89th-minute winner from Isaac Featon.
