Pause ran out of steam in their league campaign after a hectic run of fixtures to miss out on promotion to Astley & Buckshaw and Freckleton.
So Helliwell was proud his side could lift some silverware to end the season on a positive note.
“We’ve had a brilliant day and we’re delighted with way season has gone,” he said.
“We’ve gone from third bottom to third top in 12 months. The fixture backlog has caused us some injuries and promotion wasn’t to be.
“But to finish maybe third and win the cup, we’ve got to be happy with that.”
Helliwell said he felt Pause had the chances to win it in the second half after initially being second best.
“Ulverston came out of the blocks and were excellent, credit to them, they put us under lots of pressure.
“We spoke to them at half time and told them to handle their nerves… I think some nerves went through even the most experienced lads.
“They were far braver in possession after that and we were much better. I think over the 90 minutes a draw was the fair result and then we came out on top on penalties.
“We’re buzzing and we’ll enjoy it now.”
