CMB’s 0-0 draw at home to Tempest United on Wednesday meant they can’t catch Burscough in the race for the Premier Division title after a titanic two-horse race.
Thornton Cleveleys won the Premier Division with 67 points last season – just one more than CMB have this season with a game still to play.
Burscough can hit 74 points if they win their final game on Saturday at Slyne.
Taylor said: “We will look at it like we’ve not won anything but for us it’s been a real success this season.
“We finished joint third last season and we’ve almost got as many points as Thornton did last year so it’s only because of Burscough’s ridiculous season that we have finished second.
“We couldn’t have done any more and that’s credit to Burscough. They’ve been remarkable and are worthy winners.
“We’ve had nine games in 22 days but that absolutely is no excuse whatsoever. Even if we had won last night I think Burscough would have got the job done on Saturday anyway.
“They’ve won game after game after game so credit to them."
Taylor, who messaged Burscough manager Anthony Murt after the game to pass on his congratulations, is now looking forward after a campaign which also saw them reach the final of the Richardson Cup.
“Our benchmark is progress and we’ve achieved that. We need to have a better pre-season next year and a better August.
“You can’t win the title in August but you can certainly lose it.
"From September we were outstanding, but we just fell short.
"We have a core of 17 players who are committed and worked so hard for us."
And he has a new stellar signing to call on.
"Carl Grimshaw has played for us in the Hospital Cup and will hopefully play next season so he will be a good addition with his experience and leadership.
“I’m already looking forward to next season.”
