Rapid starters set tone for goal-laden afternoon

Saturday saw three of the fastest goals scored in the league this season as clubs shook off last week's call-offs in spectacular fashion, writes ROSS CHAPMAN with photos of Fulwood Amateurs v Whitehaven by GRAHAM LANCASTER.

In the Premier Division, there was a nine-goal thriller between Hurst Green and CMB, with the latter winning 6-3.

Carl Grimshaw got the ball rolling for CMB with only 16 seconds played, before Charlie Scholes made it two just four minutes later.

Jack Parker added to a dramatic opening 10 minutes with a goal that got Hurst Green back into the game.

Callum Walsh restored CMB’s two cushion on 25 minutes before Scott Craven made it 2-3 seven minutes later.

The away side went into the break two goals up though thanks to Grimshaw’s second.

Jake Craven cut the deficit to just one goal again 15 minutes from time, but Oliver Turner and Alex Leigh’s late strikes meant CMB’s margin of victory was ultimately rather comfortable.

Rossendale secured a 4-1 win over Cleator Moor Celtic to continue their 11-game home unbeaten record this season.

Pierce Beetham opened the scoring with 25 seconds gone and that was followed up just two minutes later by Teal Amos doubling the advantage.

Ricco Pembele made it three goals to nil on 12 minutes and Rossendale were in dreamland, however they had to wait a while for their next goal, which came after Luke Close’s consolation on 55 minutes.

Later in the half, Oscar Edmondson rounded off the goal action and a good day for the hosts.

Coppull United inflicted a rare defeat on the league leaders Tempest United with a 2-1 win.

Sam Parkinson put Tempest ahead on 49 minutes but Cameron Murphy equalised around the midpoint of the second half, setting up a tense final quarter of the game.

Ben Bicknell netted in the second minute of injury time to secure a big three points for Coppull.

Another huge result at the foot of the table came at Fulwood Amateurs, where bottom side Whitehaven claimed their first away win of the season in a 2-1 victory.

Spencer Lucas cancelled out Robbie Swinburn’s opener in the first half, before Lewis Tidy scored the decisive goal eight minutes after the break.

Eagley were another team to pick up their first three points on the road on Saturday, winning 2-1 at Poulton.

Poulton took the lead through George Byrne but Lewis Nolan and Kieran Sisson turned the game on its head.

There were some high-scoring games in Division One, starting with Hesketh Bank’s 10-2 win at Kendal County.

They are now the second-highest scoring side in the West Lancashire League behind Pause United.

Goals from Matthew Low, Kevin Edgar (2), Aidan Johnson, Richard Wilson (3), David Brookes and Lewis Johnson (2) got them the win.

The scores were level at half time thanks to an own goal and Louis Miller bringing County level, but Hesketh Bank were ruthless in the second 45.

Holker Old Boys Reserves were another team to enjoy a comprehensive away win, as they beat Freckleton 7-1.

Hat tricks from Jordan McGarry and Charlie McGladdery, as well as a goal from Faryl Foster, made it a memorable day.

Zach Smith scored Freckleton’s sole goal.

Millom remain five points clear at the top after a 5-1 at home to Southport Hesketh.

Muhammed Samateh did put the away side ahead on 9 minutes but Jordan Williams equalised with 10 to go until half time.

Millom, and Reece Orton in particular, turned on the style in the second half. His hat trick and Jamie Pattinson’s strike made it, ultimately, a comfortable day.

Turton also achieved a big win on Saturday, beating Slyne with Hest 6-2.

The game was close at half time with Turton leading 3-2 thanks to a Sam Hulme goal inside 30 seconds and a Danil Prudenov double, with Slyne’s goals coming from Callum Moore on both occasions.

Prudenov secured a haul in the second half with two further goals before Ethan Mason wrapped things up on the 89th minute.

Second place Astley & Buckshaw’s first game in six weeks ended in a 4-0 win over Lytham Town.

Ollie Roebuck and Adnaan Patel scored either side of a Callum Williams double to keep the pressure on Millom at the top.

It was three points and three goals for Carnforth Rangers in a 3-0 away win against Chipping.

Eric Thompson got Carnforth off to a flying start inside two minutes, then Joe Jobling bagged a brace in the second half.

Ulverston Rangers continued their strong form, winning 2-1 at Askam United.

Jack Milburn netted twice inside 20 minutes before Reece Carlisle halved the deficit midway through the second period.

Crooklands Casuals and Croston Sports drew 1-1, with goals coming from Lee Irving and Alex Abbott respectively.

In Division Two
, Stoneclough put seven past Dalton United in a 7-1 win, which pushed them up to fourth in the table.

Jumaane Meggoe opened the scoring inside a minute and from then on, Stoneclough ran riot.

Aaqil Campbell scored a hat trick, Akbar Khosab also got on the scoresheet and Meggoe added another before Cai Williams grabbed a consolation for Dalton.

Khosab scored a seventh for his side to complete an enjoyable afternoon.

Walney Island produced a five star performance against Galgate in a 5-0 away win.

Jack Litherland scored a hat trick, with the two other goals coming courtesy of Zach Walker and Jordan Chubb.

The division’s top two faced off on Saturday, with Kendal United earning a 2-1 win at leaders Pause United.

The result reduces the gap between the two sides to 14 points.

Jamie Looker scored both goals for Kendal United, either side of Will Prince’s effort for Pause.

Euxton Villa Reserves dramatically came from 2-1 down to beat Thornton Cleveleys Reserves 4-2 away from home.

Ethan Danku put Euxton Villa ahead before Ethan Brough levelled for the hosts, who went ahead in the 71st minute through Joe Hulme.

Ben Quigley and Danku scored within four minutes of Thornton Cleveley’s second to turn the game around once more, before James Hale secured the three points on 84 minutes.

Third from bottom Charnock Richard Reserves picked up a big three points, winning 3-1 away at third place Mill Hill, and one man was the star of the show.

Arrandale Richards bagged a hat trick before Harris Rafiq pulled one back.

Bamber Bridge Reserves had a similarly successful away day with a 3-1 victory at Hawcoat Park.

Taylor Maguire and Jude Caskey sent Brig’s reserves into a 2-0 lead with 20 minutes gone.

Reece Cresswell halved the deficit before the break but Harvey Collins made sure of the visitors’ taking the three points home in the second minute of stoppage time.

There was just one game and one goal in Reserve Division One as Ben Shone’s strike was all that separated Turton Reserves and CMB Reserves in a 1-0 victory for the latter.

In Reserve Division Two, Croston Sports Reserves beat Stoneclough Reserves 7-2 largely thanks to a mad last 15 minutes.

The game was a close-run affair up until the 75th minute - Lewis Townley had just completed his double for Croston Sports which put them 3-2 up.

That had happened in the same minute that Steven Ward had added his second for Stoneclough. Ash Mills had also got on the scoresheet.

But from then on, it was Croston Sports: Townley added a further two, with Jordan Freeman and Harry Bradley also putting away strikes.

Thornton Cleveleys A secured a 2-0 win away at Fulwood Amateurs A thanks to an own goal and Jay Wilson’s late effort.

The first round of the Stewart Rowe Memorial Cup again threw up some interesting results.

Caton United Reserves and Coppull United Reserves had drawn 3-3 in regular time, with the latter always having a response to Caton taking the advantage.

Scott Hendy, Callum Ellis and Alex Dodoaca cancelled out Tyson Pollard, Leon Lyon and Joseph Jenks respectively.

The game went to penalties and Caton Reserves won 4-3 from 12 yards.

Tempest United Reserves completed an outstanding comeback to beat Poulton Reserves 4-3.

Brett Dawson’s double and Will McDonald’s goal had given Poulton a seemingly convincing 3-0 lead, but Tempest responded ruthlessly.

The hosts pulled two back before the break through Alex McKenzie and Jamie Farnworth, and for most of the second half, 2-3 was how it stayed.

However, Will Wright-Thompson scored a dramatic late equaliser on 85 minutes and that was soon followed up by Adam Haycock’s goal four minutes later to complete a remark turnaround.

Rossendale Reserves progressed rather comfortably with a 5-2 win at Eagley Reserves.

They took a 4-0 lead into the break thanks to a Sam Kershaw double and efforts from Kie Melvin and Elliott Davies.

Eagley came out stronger in the second 45 and halved their opponents’ lead through Jamie Macadam and Keean Chudoba.

However, Alfie McDonald sealed the win for Rossendale on 86 minutes.

Hesketh Bank Reserves also booked their place in the next round with ease in a 3-0 victory over Hurst Green Reserves, thanks to Jamie Clandon’s brace and Ronald Perez’s late strike.

Finally, Haslingden St Marys Reserves scored a dramatic, late winner in a 1-0 win over Storeys Reserves

Toby Wilkinson’s goal was enough for them to earn a second round spot.
