Round at the double as Vickerstown pile on pressure

THEO HEWSON-BETTS reports on this weekend's action - with pictures of Croston Sports v Wyre Villa kindly supplied by Derick Thomas.

Vickerstown earned a hard-fought victory away against Blackpool Wren Rovers to reduce the gap on second-placed Euxton Villa to only five points in the Premier Division.

Danny Morris had put the home side in front before a Scott McDonald goal, and a Jackson Round double, gave Vickerstown the advantage.

Josh Few’s consolation goal did little to rain on Vickerstown’s parade.

Euxton Villa were the team under pressure from Vickerstown and by losing 2-1 to CMB courtesy of a Dan Crook penalty-spot double, MattA Atherton's side can continue to look at their home form with a slight degree of concern now suffering three losses at home compared to none on the road.

Sean Elliott scored Euxton’s goal on the day but the finish failed to spark a comeback.

Thornton Cleveleys also dropped points this weekend, as a 90th-minute Joe Hooper equaliser won Fulwood Amateurs a point against the league leaders.

Dom Lawson (two goals) and Lewis Walmsley scored for Thornton, whilst Lucas Weaver, Will Pitt and Hooper bagged for Fulwood.

With the status quo at the top of the Premier Division having maintained itself for a long time now, the pressure from Vickerstown and Fulwood, both with three games in hand on the top two, may threaten to throw the league open.

Elsewhere, Hurst Green beat Burscough Richmond 4-1 thanks to goals from Gary Basterfield, James Barnes and two from Jordan Monk.

Billy Whittle had levelled for Burscough Richmond, only for the game to quickly get away from the home team.

There was another 4-1 scoreline in the match between Coppull United and Tempest United.

Coppull had gone ahead within two minutes through Jack Ramshaw, only for Tempest to hit back immediately through Aaron Thorpe.

Tempest then pressed their advantage home with a Matthew Davis goal adding to a Jordon Coop brace.

Wyre Villa smashed eight past a shell-shocked Croston Sports side to pile the pressure on leaders Milnthorpe Corinthians, whose game with Crooklands Casuals was postponed this weekend.

Goals from Oliver Evans, Robbie Parker and Adma Stammers had put Wyre well ahead before 20 minutes had passed before Dom Case got one back for the home team.

Robbie Parker and two from Ryan Moore then put Villa further ahead.

Case got his second of the game then, only for Adam Stammers and Dion Holden to round off a resounding win for Wyre in the last stretch of the game.

Mike Melia fired Hawcoat Park to a 1-0 win over Askam United to move Hawcoat up to seventh.

Theo Ball was the hero for Freckleton as they salvaged a late point against Dalton United.

Josh Porter had put Freckleton ahead before Frazer Shand got Dalton on terms.

Goals from Tomas Sanchez and Gareth Jones put Dalton in the ascendency before, with three minutes left to play, Dylan Agnew gave Freckleton a sliver of hope.

Theo Ball seized on that hope and netted at the very last opportunity to spark happiness and relief from Freckleton.

Jenson Butterworth’s late double could not win Storey's a point against Walney Island.

Walney were 3-0 up in the 80th-minute thanks to goals from James Bailey, Zach Walker and Matthew McKee only for Butterworth to ramp up the pressure with goals in the 84th and 90th minute.

There was no equaliser to be found though and Walney took the points.

Joe Rodriguez then scored in the last minute of normal time to get the home side the win.
