The 38-year-old painter and decorator is hoping to replicate his Sunday success with the Cottam Hall side alongside assistant Shane McLeod.
Why Poulton?
“I applied for the manager’s job initially but was told I was too late, they had given it to the previous manager the day before. But they said the reserves role was still available.
"I thought about it and went down for a chat. When I spoke to them they said the manager had just walked out – I only wanted the first team job if I’m honest – and was I still interested? They had heard about me from Blackpool South in the Sunday League. So I said yes.
“There was 12 senior players at training that first Thursday – which is why the previous manager may have thought better of it – but I know a lot of players in Blackpool and where the best ones are. So I’m confident.”
What new players have you signed?
“I’ve got about 10 coming in, we’re bringing about four or five from Blackpool South plus we’ve got Nick Hepple joining and Jack Williams from Freckleton.
"We should have a decent squad.”
Aims for the season
“It’s hard to say as we’ve only been here since last Thursday. So I guess it’s best to say to finish as high as we can but over time I’m here to win the league.
"Who knows how long that will take – three, four years – but I have big ambitions.”
