Seear, Thornton and Kelsey hit goal trail

CMB hit seven in a crazy game at Poulton to keep the pressure on Thornton at the top – and give their goal difference a big boost, with pictures of Rossendale v Fulwood Amateurs by GRAHAM LANCASTER.

Carl Grimshaw scored within 10 seconds only for Poulton to equalise and then take the lead through Max Landless and Dominic Gill.

Ben Thornton then took the game by the scruff of the neck with a double before half-time and his third on 65 minutes to make it 4-2 to CMB.

And Garry Thompson’s reign at Milnthorpe Corinthians started with a 8-0 defeat of Wyre Villa in a game which featured seven different scorers.

Dan Taylor was the only player to score twice with further goals from Jamie Looker, Matthew Casson, Jenson Butterworth, Nick Grundy, Zach Hatton and Ashton Hogg.

Rossendale’s fine form continued with a 3-1 victory over Fulwood Amateurs to take the lead in the race for third in the Premier Division.

Finlay Stafford grabbed a hat-trick and Kieran Lomax and Cole Collins were also on the scoresheet.

If Haslingden St Mary’s don’t beat Millom tomorrow, Eagley are champions regardless of their result against Holker Old Boys.

And it’s advantage Freckleton in Division Two in the race to join Astley and Buckshaw in Division One next season after a promotion six-pointer against Pause United, after they prevailed 2-1.

Courtney Skerritt was again the star man, scoring either side of Jordan Lynch’s 63rd minute equaliser.

Thornton had won their previous 14 games but were two down early on through Tommy Hanslip and Jackson Bateman. Jake Mangan halved the deficit but Jack Taylor sealed the home side’s win with six minutes left.

Thornton are still in pole position to win the title if they win their last two games.

Harry Dixon got a brace in CMB Res’ 4-1 win over Coppull Res with Josh Pope and Jack Locke also on the scoresheet. Callum Ellis replied for the visitors.

Turton Res and Rossendale Res shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, William Wright-Thompson’s early effort for Turton cancelled out by Jack Mounsey.
