Sub's salvo seals late win for Amateurs

Substitute Layton Kirnon was the late hero as Fulwood Amateurs saw off Burscough Richmond in a breathless battle at Lightfoot Lane, with pictures from GRAHAM LANCASTER.

Kirnon stepped off the bench to fire an 86th minute winner to move Fulwood into fourth and inflict Burscough’s first defeat of the season.

In a fine advert for West Lancashire League football, both sides played attractive one and two touch football on Fulwood’s excellent surface.

Burscough dominated the early exchanges, the pace and power of Raj Uppal worrying Fulwood’s defence every time he had the ball.

Uppal squirted a left foot shot wide, Mike Galliers saw a long range effort tipped over ande Mike Smith struck the angle of post and crossbar as Burscough showed their football ability.

Uppal hobbled off at the break with Burscough’s attacking vigour waning as a result, the home side enjoying more and more of the ball in the second period.

In truth, neither keeper was really seriously tested until Kirnon’s late intervention, firing home from Seb Hall’s pull back with four minutes left on the clock.

Hurst Green earned a good point on the road at table-toppers Poulton, with Nick Hepple denying the visitors a morale boosting win with a 52nd minute equaliser, cancelling out Danny Mort’s first half opener.

Slyne-with-Hest’s impressive start to the season continued with a 3-0 win at Milnthorpe Corinthians.

They’re now in second thanks to goals from Josh Coulthard, Reece Pearce and Danny Dixon.

Tempest United are now level on points with neighbours CMB thanks to a 2-1 win over their local rivals.

Aaron Thorpe and Jordan Pendlebury put them two to the good at the break and despite a Charlie Scholes goal late on, Tempest hung on for the three points.

In two Fylde coast derbies, improving Wyre Villa added to Thornton Cleveleys’ woes with a 2-1 away win. Luke Smith and Richie Allen put them in command before Jordan Beavers pulled one back. That’s how it stayed to lift Wyre Villa to ninth.

And Carl Eastwood and Olly Hesford were the difference for Blackpool Wren Rovers in a 2-0 win at Lytham Town, who are now second bottom.

Div One - Rampaging Rangers surge into second

Ulverston Rangers raced out of the blocks to blow away Millom and keep the pressure on Hesketh Bank at the top.

Archie Butler and Sam Pinnegor scored inside two minutes and Pinnegor added a third before the interval. Jack Davis added the cherry on top in the second period for a 4-0 win.

Hesketh Bank came from a goal down to run out handsome winners at Southport Hesketh.

An own goal gave Denis Hill’s men the advantage but Tom Smyth scored either side of half-time to turn the tables for Bank.

Josh Brierley extended the advantage just after the hour with Harris Labrey adding a fourth.

Dan Singleton gave Southport Hesketh hope, but it was quickly extinguished by Labrey and Kevin Edgar as it finished 6-2.

Rossendale suffered their first defeat of the season in a 2-0 reverse at Haslingden St Mary’s, Alfie Edmondson and Lewis Hanley doing the damage.

Carnforth Rangers are in sixth thanks to a 5-1 away victory at Kendal County. Ben Turton and Joe Jobling put them two to the good with Connor Walmsley halving the lead by the half time whistle. But Jonny Ash, Cole Holt and Kyle Davis sealed the comprehensive three points.

Hawcoat Park ended a run of seven straight defeats with a 2-1 triumph over Crooklands Casuals.

Greg Sharp and Ben Stoker were the goalscoring heroes, Morgan Trelore replying for Crooklands.

And Eagley enjoyed the same scoreline, defeating Horwich St Mary’s Victoria through Kieran Sissons and Lewis Greenhalgh. Jack Rawnsley was the goalscorer for Horwich.

Div 2 - Peninsula plaudits as Walney regain top spot

Walney Island went back to the top of the table with a 5-0 trouncing of Cartmel.

Bailey Murrell, Reece Craig, Matthew McKee, Zach Walker and Matthew Lockley were the key to Walney’s sixth win in eight games.

They are level on points with Chipping who prevailed in a goalfest against Pause United.

A Harris Bailey hat-trick and a Jack Fletcher strike put Chipping four up inside the first 25 minutes.

Will Sharkey pulled one back but Fletcher made it 5-1 after 45 minutes.

A Wayne Beswick brace for Pause United made it 5-3 in the end.

Garstang Reserves notched their sixth consecutive away win but left it late to see off Kendal United.

Lewis Heap and Charlie Howarth fired them two up at the break but Kendal came roaring back with two goals in the space of seven minutes from Keenan Quill and Brandon Croskill-Robinson.

Paul Drinnon was the hero for the Riversiders with an injury time winner.

In the final game of the night, Storeys’ defeated bottom side Galgate 5-1.

Matthew Poole and an own goal gave Storey’s breathing space and despite Ryan Walton’s effort on 46th minute, further goals from Daniel Briggs-Calvert and Tom Charlson sealed the three points for ninth-placed Storeys.
