Titles and triumph as midweek matches deliver silverware

Freckleton, Thornton Cleveleys Res (pictured above) and Chipping Res enjoyed a wonderful Wednesday as their season-long endeavours came to fruition with promotion and title honours.

Starting in the Premier Division, Coppull got the win they needed to end any lingering relegation fears, beating Hurst Green 2-0 thanks to Jack Shields and Alessio Degrassi.

That meant Wyre Villa will play in Division One next season – they drew 0-0 with Slyne-with-Hest.

Into Division Two now and Freckleton only needed a point to join Astley and Buckshaw in Division One next season and they were home and hosed by half-time in their game against Storeys, going 3-0 up by the break through a Saul Hamer double and Callum Williams’ effort.

Storeys pulled one back through Josh Airey but Freckleton were not to be denied this year.

Pause United’s result was immaterial in the end and they went down 2-0 to Kendal United, Ryan Close and Max Hinman on target.

Near the bottom, Jumaane Meggoe was the hero for Stoneclough who won 4-0 against Hawcoat Park.

Meggoe got a hat-trick with Callum McHale adding the cherry on top late on.

Thornton Cleveleys Res are Division One Reserve champions after getting the win they needed to pip Fulwood Amateurs Reserves to the title.

And they did it in style romping to a 7-1 win at Turton Res. They were 5-0 at the break through Jake Mangan’s double plus goals from Jordan Rankine, Alwyn Flynn and Tommy Dollin.

Mangan grabbed two more in the second half while Jay McGeachie added a consolation for Turton Res.

Rossendale Res also hit seven away at Hurst Green Res, Tom Hulme also bagging four and Bradley Marsh, Sam Morioty and Milan Tinant getting in on the act in the 7-0 win.

Coppull Res moved into fourth with a 2-1 win over Poulton Res, Alex Dodoaca getting the winner after Harrison Poole had cancelled out Ben Bicknell’s early strike for Coppull.

Chipping Res wrapped up the Division Two Reserve title winning 4-1 away with a game to spare.

Lytham Town succumbed to goals by Oscar Middlesbrough, Gareth Jones and Henry Harrison’s pair.

Ollie Heywood was on the scoresheet for the home side.

Chipping will be joined by either Freckleton Res or Haslingden St Mary’s Res after the former went into second with a 3-1 win over Hesketh Bank Res.

Graham Lyons got a double and Samson Ogundaisi a third with an own goal helping Hesketh Bank get on the scoresheet.

Haslingden St Mary’s know they will have to beat Lytham Town Res on Saturday to snatch back that second promotion slot.

Neither Rossendale A and Thornton Cleveleys A could find a winner as their game ended 0-0.
