Premier Division: Burscough Richmond reach the summit

Burscough Richmond moved to the top of the Premier Division this weekend after goals from Collin Bosque-Green and Peter Armitage secured a 2-0 win against Slyne with Hest.

Bosque-Green broke the deadlock on 56 minutes, nodding home at the back post from a mishit volley.

Slyne thought they had equalised but Matty Edwards pulled off an outstanding low save to keep his side ahead.

And as Slyne pushed forward in injury time, Burscough Richmond broke clear with the tireless Raj Uppal Singh racing down the wing before squaring for sub Peter Armitage to tap home at the back post.

That result left Burscough Richmond topping the division on goal difference, just ahead of second-placed Fulwood Amateurs, who also picked up three points thanks to a 2-0 victory, with Harrison Walsh and Matt Van Wyk on target as their side beat Wyre Villa.

The door was left open for the new top two after CMB recorded an impressive 6-1 win over previous table-toppers Poulton.

Ben Thornton netted a hat-trick, whilst CMB’s other goals came courtesy of Dylan Winstanley, Oliver Turner and an own goal. Jack Wyers-Roebuck got Poulton’s only goal.

Elsewhere in the division, Tempest United also hit six as they triumphed 6-0 over Lytham Town.

Dean Singleton opened the scoring, before Jacob Greenhalgh grabbed a hat-trick, including two goals in three minutes.
Kurt Farlow and Elliott Hailwood completed the scoring.

Blackpool Wren Rovers raced out of the blocks in their 4-1 win over Vickerstown, scoring all four of their goals inside 24 minutes.

Archie Addison kicked off and completed his side’s scoring, either side of a Carl Eastwood strike and an own goal, before Jackson Round scored what would ultimately be a consolation for Vickerstown in the second-half.

Whitehaven fought back from behind twice on their way to a 3-2 victory against Coppull United.

Coppull United led 2-1 with just fifteen minutes to play thanks to goals from Jordan Lorde and Jimmy McIver either side of a Kian Goulding strike.

But Whitehaven would rally to take all three points, with Daniel Coulter pulling them level before Goulding found the net again to seal the win.

Milnthorpe Corinthians would also rescue a result late on, as a stoppage time equaliser would see them play out a 2-2 draw with Thornton Cleveleys.

Milnthorpe Corinthians had opened the scoring through a Jenson Butterworth penalty, before goals from Jordan Beavers and Connor Buchanen swung the game in Thornton Cleveleys’ favour.

However, Gary Thompson would grab a goal in the 92nd minute to secure Milnthorpe Corinthians a share of the spoils.

Finally in the Premier Division, Turton picked up three points on the road at Hurst Green, with Sam Crook and Ally Dickson finding the net in a 2-0 win.

Division One Reserve: Fryer fires Lostock St Gerards Reserves back to winning ways

Table-topping Lostock St Gerards Reserves bounced back from losing their unbeaten start to the league season last time out with a 3-1 win against CMB Reserves.

Dan Fryer’s double gave Lostock St Gerards a 2-0 lead, before Nathan Durrans pulled one back for CMB Reserves.

But with just a minute of normal time to play, Ben Cecil would add a third for Lostock St Gerards Reserves to make the points safe.

Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves, who last week ended the league leaders’ run, continued that positive momentum as they beat Poulton Reserves 5-2.

Danny Fletcher, Ellis Wilson, Tony Pearson, Steve McEwan and Joe Moss all got on the scoresheet for Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves, with McEwan’s goal coming from the penalty spot, whilst Taylor Maguire and Adam Jennings were the scorers for Poulton Reserves.

Two goals from Nick Skelly, the latter being a penalty, helped Tempest United Reserves on their way to a 4-0 win over Croston Sports Reserves. George Sorensen and Spencer Derbyshire also found the net.

Thornton Cleveleys Reserves eventually triumphed 3-2 over Coppull United Reserves in a game where they had initially trailed.

Ben Pendlebury put Coppull United Reserves 1-0 up after just six minutes, before Jordan Gregory and Tommy Dollin netted for Thornton Cleveleys Reserves to turn the game around.

Gregg Brickell would though level things up again at 2-2, only for Harry Fryer to restore Thornton Cleveleys Reserves’ lead with what would prove to be the game’s decisive goal.

Meanwhile, Craig Crook got the only goal of the game as Hurst Green Reserves beat Turton Reserves 1-0.

Division Two Reserve: Excellent Errington runs riot against Rossendale Reserves

Thornton Cleveleys A picked up a 4-2 victory over Rossendale Reserves, the current league leaders, with Charlie Errington netting all four of his side’s goals.

Rossendale Reserves’ goals came courtesy of a Ben Lomax and Jonathan Booth.

Hesketh Bank Reserves’ John Ashcroft and Will Booth of Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves both bagged braces as their sides played out a high-scoring thriller.

Second-half strikes from James Goodyear and Zach Brierley helped Haslingden St Marys Reserves record a 2-1 comeback victory over Chipping Reserves, that after Michael Cooper had opened the scoring.

Rounding off this week’s league action, Lytham Town Reserves saw off Storeys Reserves 2-1 thanks to goals from Ric Tomlinson and Finlay Best.

Tom Charlson halved the deficit for Storeys Reserves on the hour mark, but there was to be no comeback for his side.

Richardson Cup: Brilliant Bailey puts in five-star performance

League matters took a back seat in divisions one and two this weekend, with sides in action in the first round of the Richardson Cup.

One of the results of the round saw Walney Island beat Stoneclough 5-0, with James Bailey hitting all five of his side’s goals in a remarkable individual performance.

Askam United also registered a sizable victory as they won 6-0 at Pause United.

Two goals from Luke Bradbury helped Eagley on their way to a 4-1 victory over Euxton Villa Reserves, with Finley Stafford and Kieran Sissons also finding the net. Liam Sullivan got Euxton Villa Reserves’ only goal.

A stand-out tie of the first-round draw saw Rossendale face Hesketh Bank in a clash which saw the team second in Division One take on the team in third.

And it was Rossendale who emerged victorious thanks to a Paul Stannard brace and a goal from Tom Hulme.

Tom Smyth had scored to pull Hesketh Bank level at 1-1, before Hulme and Stannard secured Rossendale’s place in the next round.

Horwich St Mary’s Victoria also picked up a 2-1 win, seeing off Kendal County to book their place in the second round.

Harris Bailey’s second-half strike was all Chipping needed to advance, as they saw off Dalton United 1-0.

The remaining first round ties were all settled on penalties, with three games decided by a shoot-out.

AFC Blackpool Reserves and Garstang Reserves remained locked level at 0-0 after 90 minutes, and it was AFC Blackpool Reserves who would ultimately go through to the next round, winning 5-4 on penalties.

Freckleton won their shoot-out against Millom 6-5, that after they were just minutes from securing victory in normal time.

Macauley Hopkins looked to have given Freckleton the victory, before a 90th minute goal from Millom’s Ben MacDonald levelled things at 1-1 to subsequently force penalties.

Holker Old Boys Reserves were also taken to a shoot-out despite leading, and they too held their nerve from 12 yards to beat Southport Hesketh 7-6 on penalties.
